Chapter 1022: Treated You Poorly

The next morning, news of Aubree's injury became public. Sonya contacted Aubree, expressing concern.

"Aubree, I heard you were injured. Is that true?"

Aubree, sitting on her bed, stared at her wounded ankle. Her expression was cold, but her reply was polite. "I accidentally fell, but I'm fine. You don't need to worry, Mrs. Farwell."

Sonya furrowed her brow. "How did you fall? Didn't you visit Lucian yesterday? Does he know you're hurt?"

Aubree's response was hesitant. "Mrs. Farwell, you should stay out of this."

Sonya immediately guessed, "He knows about it, doesn't he?" Each time Lucian mentioned their relationship, he'd told Sonya to stay out of it. Now Aubree was saying the same.

Anger choked Sonya. "Tell me how you got hurt." A smug look flashed across Aubree's face; Sonya was close to the truth.

Aubree feigned hesitation. "Yesterday, I fell down the stairs leaving Lucian's place and injured my ankle." She quickly added, "Fortunately, Lucian had Dr. Elswick treat it."

Gina entered at that moment. Aubree subtly signaled her, and Gina immediately interjected, "Samuel and I panicked when we received Lucian's call last night."

Sonya's frown deepened. "Lucian called you? Where is Aubree now?" She'd assumed Lucian would keep Aubree at the manor, given her injury. But Gina's words sowed doubt.

Before Gina could answer, Aubree interrupted, "Mrs. Farwell, I'm home now. It's better for me to recuperate here, under my parents' care."

She was clearly rejecting the Farwell residence. Gina shot her a look, but Aubree remained resolute, awaiting Sonya's response.

Sonya's angry voice filled the phone. "You don't have to defend him. Lucian must have treated you poorly! I can't believe he made you leave when you were injured. Don't worry, I'll give him a piece of my mind!"

Gina belatedly realized Aubree's strategic retreat.

Aubree smirked. "Mrs. Farwell, you've misunderstood. It was my decision toโ€”"

Sonya cut her off. "Stop defending him. I know you're a good person. Don't worry, as long as I'm here, I won't let you suffer." She hung up.

Aubree chuckled, tossing her phone aside, and gazed at her cast. The injury had been worth it; Sonya would defend her.

Gina relaxed; their plan had worked. Remembering her reason for being there, she said, "Aubree, Frieda is here to see you."
