Chapter 103: Wanting to Get Back With Her
On the way back from the cafรฉ, Sonya grew increasingly worried. Therefore, when Elias finished work, she called him to go to the manor together.
Lucian picked up Estella after work. As soon as they entered, they found the elderly Farwells sitting solemnly on the couch. It was clear they had something to say.
"Dad, Mom, why didn't you tell me you were coming? Is there a problem?" Lucian asked, puzzled.
His words were barely out when Sonya nodded gravely. "There's something we need to discuss."
Seeing his mother's serious expression, Lucian furrowed his brow. He turned to Estella and handed her to Catalina, asking her to take the little girl upstairs.
Catalina complied. Estella obediently greeted her grandparents before going upstairs with her caretaker.
Lucian sat on the couch beside his parents. "What's wrong that brought you here so late?"
"Is Roxanne back?" Sonya asked directly.
Lucian's gaze darkened. "Yes, we've met."
Sonya snorted. "Why didn't you tell us? Don't tell me you still want to get back together with her!"
Lucian's frown deepened, but he remained silent.
His silence made Sonya's heart sink. "I don't care what you think, but I'll never agree to let that woman back into our family! She left without a word and abandoned her child. Now she wants to return? I'll never allow it! What if history repeats itself? You might accept it, but Essie is grown now. Can she bear it?"
She paused, waiting for a response, but none came. Her expression changed as she tried a different tactic.
"Think about what Essie has been through. She's had a weak constitution since childhood. Why? If that woman had cared for her after giving birth, I wouldn't say anything. But she abandoned Essie, leaving her in poor health. We managed to improve Essie's health, but she developed an autistic temperament and was called a bastard child without a mother. Do you think this will worsen her autism? It's all because of that woman! If you insist on letting her back, I'll take Essie and raise her myself. I'll never hand Essie over to her!"
Seeing her son's lack of reaction, Sonya looked anxiously at her husband. She had brought Elias because she knew his words carried more weight.
Elias, also feeling sorry for his granddaughter, said earnestly, "Your mother's right. I don't care about your other affairs, but I'm concerned about letting that woman care for Essie. Think carefully."
Lucian finally looked up, meeting their gaze.
Sonya breathed a sigh of relief, thinking he had listened. Remembering Aubree's sad expression that afternoon, she added, "It's all thanks to Aubree for staying by your side all these years. She helped care for Essie and did everything for us like a biological daughter. How is she not better than Roxanne? A girl's youth doesn't last forever. You can't keep her waiting."
