Chapter 1042: Should Not Be Asking This

Roxanne waited a long time, but no one answered. The call disconnected. Previously, she wouldn't have called back. But this concerned Archie and Benny, so she had no choice. It took several tries before Lucian answered.

โ€œWhat is it, Ms. Jarvis?โ€ His voice was frigid, a stark contrast to his usual demeanor. Roxanne froze momentarily, then recalled her purpose.

โ€œMr. Farwell, why do you always involve the children in our disputes?โ€ she said coldly. โ€œEstellaโ€™s school transfer, while upsetting, is your prerogative. But why deny Archie and Benny a visit?โ€

Lucian raised an eyebrow. Heโ€™d assumed her call concerned Estella. He hadn't anticipated a confrontation, expecting Archie and Benny to seek her out eventually, but not so soon. A mocking glint entered his gaze. โ€œYouโ€™ve used them before; thereโ€™s no guarantee you wonโ€™t again. Iโ€™m taking precautions. Is there a problem with that?โ€

Roxanne was speechless. He referred to a previous incident where Archie and Benny had visited Estella without her knowledge. Though unresolved, she wouldn't explain further.

โ€œEven so,โ€ she said, โ€œyou should have ensured their safety outside your house, Mr. Farwell.โ€

Lucianโ€™s expression darkened. โ€œWhat do you mean?โ€

Roxanneโ€™s voice bristled with anger. โ€œArchie and Benny were injured returning from your place. They were chased by youths. Should I involve the police? Your area is terribly unsafe.โ€

Roxanne suspected Aubree. Remembering that night, she linked Lucian and Aubree. If Aubree was responsible, Lucian might be complicit.

Lucian, however, knew nothing of the boys' visit that morning, nor their ordeal. Though he planned to curtail contact, Archie and Benny had grown fond of him, and he of them. News of their injuries displeased him greatly. โ€œWho did this?โ€ he demanded. "Who dares harm them in broad daylight, near my manor!"

Roxanne countered, โ€œShouldnโ€™t I be asking you that, Mr. Farwell?โ€

Lucian realized the true reason for her call. The incident occurred near his residence. His tone softened. โ€œI just learned of this. Don't worry. It happened on my property; Iโ€™ll ensure justice for Archie and Benny. Iโ€™ll get to the bottom of it.โ€

Before Roxanne could respond, she blurted, โ€œI hope youโ€™re a man of your word, Mr. Farwell. No matter the mastermind, you must explain this to the boys. After allโ€ฆโ€
