Chapter 1058: Who Are You?

Even though Roxanne and Lucian anticipated Archie's words, they were still moved to hear the boy articulate his thoughts. After looking down at Archie, Roxanne silently shifted her gaze to Lucian. She wished, if possible, that Essie could stay a little longer, at least until she calmed down. Unfortunately, she knew she had no right to ask. Only after a few seconds of silence did Lucian meet Roxanne's gaze.

Clenching her fists, Roxanne looked away, feigning composure. "What do you think, Ms. Jarvis?" Lucian inquired in his deep voice.

Roxanne replied reluctantly, "I have no say in the matter, since Essie is your child, Mr. Farwell. However, I do hope you'll respect her wishes."

Since Roxanne didn't intend to request Estella's extended stay, Lucian nodded understandingly and turned to Estella. "Then you should come home with me."

Estella had just stopped crying, but her face crumpled again at her father's words. Seeing her about to burst into tears, Benny and Archie's displeasure with Lucian was evident. "Essie doesn't want to go back," Benny protested, confronting his father with determination.

Lucian was surprised by his son's outburst. Archie then stepped forward, shielding Estella with his body. Though he said nothing, his intention was clear.

Lucian simply looked silently at Roxanne, who frowned at his gaze. She wanted to speak on Estella's behalf, but Lucian's demeanor silenced her. She knew, too, that she had no authority. A wave of frustration washed over her; he might have listened before, but now, with Aubreeโ€ฆ

"Archie, Benny, you go upstairs and let Mr. Farwell talk to Essie," Roxanne urged, surprising the boys.

Estella, believing Roxanne no longer wanted her, began bawling again, clutching the woman's sleeve tightly.

As chaos erupted again, Roxanne furrowed her brow helplessly. Lucian, however, remained impassive at the door, watching Estella and waiting.

Finally, Roxanne found her voice. "Mr. Farwellโ€ฆ" She could no longer remain silent as Estella sobbed. As she spoke, she returned Estella's grip, feeling the little girl's sweaty palm. Heartbroken, Roxanne said, "I know what you're thinking, but some things require time, especially considering Essie's condition."

Lucian's blunt response struck a nerve. "And who are you to concern yourself with Essie like that?"

Roxanne's desire to speak vanished. Her lips parted, but no words came; she could only tighten her grip on Estella's hand.

Lucian then turned to Estella. "Come home with me. Mr. Lann will be coming over this evening." Lucian, noting Estella's recent emotional instability, had summoned James for professional help.

Estella shook her head vigorously, crying so hard she could barely breathe.
