Chapter 1062: Spill the Beans
โIโm sorry,โ Roxanne murmured, lowering her head. Benny, relieved sheโd believed his lie, let out a silent sigh. His motherโs apology further eased his apprehension. He tugged her sleeve obediently. โI donโt blame you, Mommy!โ
Roxanne forced a smile, though remorse lingered. Benny tilted his head, blurting out, โIf you really feel sorry, make Mr. Farwell our daddy! Archie and I like him a lot!โ
Roxanneโs heart ached. This was the first time Benny had voiced his feelings about Lucian to her. Were their feelings so strong because of their blood relation?
She felt a powerful urge to tell Benny the truth, but the thought of Lucianโs reaction stopped her. If Lucian knew the boys were his children, he wouldn't let them stay with her.
She silently pinched her palm, swallowing the words. โMr. Farwell is going to marry someone else, and thereโs nothing I can do about that,โ she said, patting his head. โBut I promise your future father will be someone you and your brother will like!โ
Bennyโs disappointment was palpable, yet he understood, remembering his motherโs strained relationship with his father. He resolved to help his parents reconcile.
Roxanne, unable to bear his disappointment, stood and took his hand. โCome on. Letโs go back to Essie.โ
The boy nodded and followed her downstairs. Archie and Estella were devising a plan to encourage their parents to reconcile. At the sound of footsteps, they quickly separated, settling onto the couch, pretending nothing was amiss.
Roxanne watched them with amusement. โWhat secrets were you two whispering about?โ
Archie calmly replied, โI was telling Essie that Bennyโs very good with computers.โ
Estella nodded in agreement. โMm-hmm! Iโm great at it, too!โ
Roxanne was surprised. Estellaโs innocent demeanor belied her computer skills. It wasn't shocking, considering she was Lucian's child. Her high IQ made sense in that context.
โWhat did you need Bennyโs help with, Ms. Jarvis? If he canโt help, maybe I can,โ Estella offered.
Roxanne glanced at Benny, then grinned. โItโs nothing much. Iโm not very computer-literate, so I asked him for some help.โ
Benny nodded.
While Estella seemed unconcerned about their lie, Archie suspected his mother's motives. He worried about Bennyโs response to her questions. His brotherโs expression seemed odd. Had he revealed the truth?
Panic surged. Finding Benny, he whispered, โDid you let it slip?โ
Only his brotherโs reassurance eased his anxiety.
