Listen to this chapter:

Roxanne picked up her kids after leaving the office.

"I'm still a little busy," she said, suppressing her anger and smiling, "so why don't I have Aunt Madilyn accompany you two for a bit?"

The children, assuming she was busy with work, nodded obediently.

Roxanne handed them to her best friend, her expression souring as she returned to her car. She drove immediately to the Farwell residence.

"Hello, Ms. Jarvis," Catalina greeted. She paused, noticing Roxanne's face, and swallowed her words.

Roxanne nodded curtly and turned to the living room. "Is Lucian here? I'd like to speak to him."

Catalina nodded quickly. "Yes, he is. I'll go upstairs and call him."

Soon, she returned with Lucian, followed by Estella, who toddled down behind them. Lucian, still wary of leaving Estella with his parents, had waited at the kindergarten gates to pick her up early.

Estella's mood had improved significantly; she no longer had to see "that mean woman." Seeing Roxanne, her eyes sparkled with admiration, and she ran toward her with outstretched arms.

Roxanne's heart softened. She caressed Estella's head. "I have something to talk to your daddy about. Go play over there for a little while, alright?"

Estella nodded and started playing with her doll on the carpet.

Lucian frowned. "What do you want?"

Roxanne's long-suppressed anger erupted. "Lucian, if you have a problem with me, take it out on me. Why are you doing this to Archie and Benny? They've always been respectful and caring toward your daughter. You have no reason to bully them, even on Estella's behalf."

Lucian, surprised by Roxanne's visit and outburst, frowned deeper. "What did I do to them?"

Roxanne smirked coldly. "Who else has the power to expel them from kindergarten? Stop pretending to be innocent. It won't work on me."

Lucian stiffened. "I did speak to the head of the kindergarten, butโ€”"

Roxanne interrupted angrily, "Don't you think you're overdoing it? No matter what happened in the past, it should stay between us. Come after me! I won't object, but the kids are innocent. Why are you hurting them?"

She dug her nails into her palm, trying to control herself. Her voice wavering slightly, she continued, "Yes, I made mistakes in the past. That was my fault. Get revenge on me, but please, forgive my children."

Tears welled in her eyes. The head of the kindergarten was right; finding another kindergarten wouldn't be difficult if Lucian didn't interfere. But if he refused to let them go, she was powerless, no matter her influence.

She scoffed at her own naivetรฉ. She'd thought they were on decent terms lately, courteous and past their conflicts. Disappointingly, her feelings were one-sided. Lucian still saw her as an enemy.

Lucian's heart ached at her stubbornness and vulnerability. He was speechless, regretting his actions regarding the kindergarten.
