Chapter 1111
โLetโs not talk about it,โ Frieda said irritably, tossing her purse aside and taking a sip of water.
Aubree raised an eyebrow, smiling. โLet me guess. Did you quarrel with your brother?โ
Friedaโs expression subtly shifted in agreement.
Aubreeโs smile widened. She produced an exquisite box from her purse. โDonโt waste your energy on him. Take a look at this.โ
Frieda paused, puzzled, before taking the box and opening it. Inside lay a necklace by her favorite designerโa piece sheโd often dreamt of.
โAubree, Iโฆโ Frieda gazed at her friend in shock.
Aubree propped her chin in her hand. โItโs a thank-you gift. Your idea worked perfectly.โ
Friedaโs gloom vanished. Putting away the box, she asked, โHow are things between you and Essie?โ
Aubree beamed, recalling the morningโs events. โNot bad. The kid isnโt ignoring me anymore. Though,โ she shrugged with a chuckle, โit would have been better for her if sheโd behaved sooner. I might have been nicer.โ
Frieda wisely avoided asking about Aubreeโs previous treatment of Estella, simply smiling and saying, โAs long as your relationship with Lucian has improved.โ
โThe most important thing is Lucian acknowledged the improvement in my relationship with Essie,โ Aubree said casually, revealing the crucial news.
Frieda was surprised. โWhy did you say that?โ
Aubree recounted her phone conversation with Lucian that morning.
Frieda nodded eagerly. โIf thatโs the case, your marriage with Lucian is secure.โ
Aubree nodded impassively. โSo, you neednโt be angry anymore. When I marry Lucian, Iโll put in a good word with Old Mr. Queen for you, and he will restore your position.โ
Frieda smiled and raised her glass of water. โIn the absence of wine, this will suffice. Congratulations in advance, Aubree.โ
They clinked glasses and continued their breakfast in high spirits.
Meanwhile, Archie and Benny climbed out of bed early that morning, though their usual fervent excitement about returning to school was absent. Their parentsโ quarrel meant Essie would no longer be allowed to attend their kindergarten. The boys descended the stairs in low spirits.
They found their mother already seated at the table.
โYouโre up, boys. I was just about to come up and wake you,โ Roxanne said, smiling as she began setting the table. Their motherโs presence slightly improved their mood.
โMust we stay at this school, Mommy?โ Benny asked instinctively, once seated.
Roxanneโs hands stilled. She smiled helplessly. โAre you not doing well at your current kindergarten?โ
Benny lowered his head. โWe want to be with Essie.โ
Roxanneโs heart ached. She understood her childrenโs feelings. Earlier, when Lucian had visited, sheโd hoped to persuade him to allow Estella to return to her old school. Instead, sheโd not only failed but had incurred his wrath, resulting in Estella's removal.
