Chapter 1147
Pamela, distracted, dared not lie under Lucianโs gaze. Mid-sentence, she appealed to Roxanne, who seamlessly continued the explanation.
โThe children crowded around Estella, saying things and even stepping on her hand. She resisted, but they pushed her down. I only intervened when I couldnโt bear to watch any longer.โ
Roxanne suspected the childrenโs taunts but avoided further upsetting Estella. Lucianโs expression chilled as she spoke, and Roxanneโs anger flared. โThe intensity of this bullying suggests itโs been happening for days. Mr. Farwell, did you know nothing of this?โ she questioned. The thought that Lucianโs neglect stemmed from his relationship with Aubree and the prospect of another child pierced Roxanneโs heart; she clutched Estella tighter.
Lucian remained silent, but approached. Roxanne instinctively tried to retreat, but the couch blocked her. He stood before her, causing her to tense. Just as she was about to question him, Lucian reached for Estellaโs injured hand. After examining it, he turned to Pamela. โIs this how your kindergarten cares for children?โ
Pamelaโs heart sank. Sheโd underestimated Estellaโs vulnerability and the childrenโs hostility, leaving her speechless when Lucian discovered the incident. โIโm sorry, Mr. Farwell. This was an oversight on myโโ
Lucian interrupted. โThis conflict wasnโt recent, yet you only learned of it today. If the kindergarten canโt manage childrenโs disputes, my daughter will no longer attend!โ
Panic seized Pamela. โMr. Farwell, this was truly an oversight. Iโll be more attentive in the future. Please donโt reprimand me so harshly.โ She again looked pleadingly at Roxanne.
Roxanne, though angered by Pamelaโs negligence, found Lucianโs response unreasonable. โMr. Farwell, shouldnโt you reflect on your own actions before blaming the teacher? I refuse to believe Estella acted perfectly normal at home these past few days. Did you notice nothing amiss?โ
Pamela was stunned by Roxanneโs boldness, realizing she was no longer the focus. Relieved, she quietly retreated. Lucian, however, was captivated by Roxanneโs words. He had no defense. Aubree had been handling Estellaโs kindergarten transport; heโd had minimal interaction with the teachers. While heโd noticed Estellaโs subdued mood, heโd attributed it to disliking the new school. He never imagined this.
