Chapter 1151
Estella stared intently at Roxanne for a long time before reluctantly releasing her. "Ms. Jarvis, you must pinky swear you'll visit me in two days!"
Smiling, Roxanne extended her hand and pinky swore.
Lucian's face darkened as he observed their interaction. After Roxanne placated Estella, she rose to leave. "I should go now." She fled the office without waiting for a response. Worried about Lucian questioning her kindergarten visit and dreading his sarcastic remarks, she hurried away.
Lucian watched her go, his brow furrowed. "Daddy, are you angry with Ms. Jarvis again?" Estella asked anxiously, noticing the change in his expression.
Her voice brought him back to the present. He leaned down, caressing her head. "I'm not angry with Ms. Jarvis, but I have something to attend to. Be a good girl at school, okay?"
Estella clung to his sleeve. "Daddy, are you going to pick me up tonight?"
He remained silent for a moment, then, realizing her fear, nodded. "Okay."
Reassured, Estella released her grip and followed him out. Lucian handed Estella to Pamela before departing.
Leaving the kindergarten, Roxanne slowed her pace, her mind racing. She knew Lucian would marry Aubree eventually, but hadn't expected Aubree to be caring for Estella so soon. Pamela's comments suggested a good relationship between them. Had Aubree's attitude toward Estella changed? Perhaps she would be a good mother.
As she reached her car, someone grabbed her wrist. She froze, instantly recognizing the touch without a word. It was Lucian.
Is he here to warn me? Taking a deep breath, she turned. "Mr. Farwell, is there anything else?"
Lucian, his brow deeply furrowed, scowledโan expression Roxanne had never seen before. She felt a sudden wave of nervousness.
"I'm sorry I broke my promise," Roxanne explained immediately, anticipating his questions. "Archie and Benny were worried Estella might be bullied, so I came to check on her. It was for them..."
As she finished, Lucian tightened his grip, causing her to wince. "Ms. Jarvis, are you blaming this on the two children again? If they were worried, why didn't they come themselves? Don't use the 'they're just kids' excuse. They've been to my place alone before."
Dumbfounded by his grilling, she finally added, "I was very worried too."
With a sullen expression, he probed, "Is that all?"
Her heart pounded at his tone. Fear gripped her. "Since you're so worried about Estella, are you sure just looking at her is enough?"
Lucian stared morosely at her.
