Chapter 1160

Roxanne’s spirits lifted at the mention of their research. "We successfully completed the first stage this morning," she exclaimed, "proving our efforts haven't been in vain. Starting tomorrow, we embark on a new, even more challenging stage!" The thought of the research's results filled her with anticipation. She also welcomed Jack's assistance. "I'd be honored if you could help," she said. "Why would I find you a nuisance?"

He chuckled softly. "That's good to know. It's late, so I shan't disturb you further. See you tomorrow."

Roxanne laughed in assent. Thanks to his call, she felt calmer and drifted into a peaceful sleep, dreaming of the next day's work.

Early the following morning, after sending Archie and Benny to kindergarten, she hurried to the research institute. To her surprise, Jack was already there, deep in conversation with Colby in the corridor. Both men looked serious.

Roxanne waited quietly, only speaking after a long while. "I'm sorry I'm late," she apologized softly.

Jack smiled understandingly. "That's all right. I know you had to drop off the children. In any case, we're not on a time crunch. Your children are much more important."

Colby, relieved Jack had addressed the issue, offered a tight smile. "Good morning, Dr. Jarvis."

The trio walked towards the facility, discussing the project's progress. Suddenly, Jack turned to Colby. "Oh, right. I forgot to mention I'm officially participating from today onward. I look forward to working with you, Dr. Galloway."

Colby's expression stiffened momentarily, but he quickly recovered, smiling pleasantly. "I'm sure our research will go even more smoothly with your participation." He then lowered his gaze, hiding his emotions behind his glasses.

Even before this, Jack had been at the institute almost daily, seemingly inseparable from Roxanne. Now, officially participating in the research, their closeness would undoubtedly increase. A wave of jealousy washed over Colby as he imagined Roxanne and Jack together all day. Jack's lips curved into a subtle, enigmatic smile after his announcement.

They soon entered the research facility. Roxanne introduced Jack to the other researchers, who welcomed him warmly, then led him to their laboratory bench. The bench, initially used for small-batch pre-testing, was only large enough for two. Previously, Colby and Roxanne had worked there together. Now, Colby would take a secondary role.

After pre-heating the apparatus, Roxanne turned to find the weighed materials already passed to her by Jack. Surprised, she smiled at him before continuing the experiment. Their teamwork was surprisingly effective, not much different from her collaboration with Colby.
