Chapter 120: Must Protect Essie
Lucian followed closely behind. The exit was easy to find; however, Roxanne, frightened by the sophisticated gimmicks, panicked. After calming down, she quickly escaped the haunted house. Sunlight dazzled her as she emerged. Lucian, directly behind her, couldn't take his eyes off her. They both had different thoughts racing through their minds.
Noticing the tension, Madilyn pulled Roxanne aside and whispered, "What's going on? What does he want?"
Roxanne snapped to attention. Seeing Lucian's anxious, worried expression, she remembered his words in the haunted house. He didn't seem to be lying. Worried about Estella, she realized she'd always believed Estella was Lucian and Aubree's child. Now, knowing Aubree wasn't involved, she liked Estella even more.
"Nothing, just personal matters," Roxanne smiled.
Madilyn was skeptical. What personal matter required Lucian to travel all this way? Just as she was about to press further, Roxanne walked toward Lucian. Madilyn's doubts intensified.
Lucian, seeing Roxanne approach, frowned, intending to ask for her help. However, Roxanne spoke first, "Let's take a stroll."
Lucian breathed a sigh of relief. "I truly appreciate this," he said gratefully.
Deciding to visit Estella, Roxanne took Archie and Benny from Madilyn, saying, "You can head back. We're going with him." She knew Estella relied on Archie and Benny; their presence would aid her recovery.
Madilyn didn't press further. She quietly watched the four of them leave, looking like a loving family.
After leaving Universe Park, Roxanne, Archie, and Benny got into Lucian's car, leaving Madilyn and her car behind. Cayden, already waiting, sped toward the Farwell residence.
During the drive, Lucian explained Estella's condition and medical history to Roxanne. Roxanne was disheartened to learn of the mental illness and hardships Estella had faced at such a young age. Estella's condition seemed to have worsened. Feeling guilty, Roxanne wished she hadn't said certain things to Estella.
Archie and Benny sat quietly, listening attentively. Their hatred for Lucian slowly turned to heartache. Estella, their age, had endured such terrible suffering. Even in kindergarten, she'd been ostracized.
Must protect Essie!
Cayden drove at breakneck speed, arriving at the manor shortly after. Lucian led Roxanne, Archie, and Benny to the second floor.
James waited upstairs, keeping his distance due to Estella's unpredictable behavior, fearing self-harm. He left the door slightly ajar and stood silently at the entrance. Seeing them, he slightly furrowed his brow before nodding. "Ms. Jarvis."
Roxanne nodded back, her focus solely on Estella. "Where's Essie? Let me see her."
James pointed to a corner of the room.
