Chapter 1223
Roxanne was speechless. After all, she, Jack, and Colby had overseen the project from its inception. Naturally, she wouldn't sabotage herself, leaving only Jack and Colby as suspects. However, she hesitated to doubt either; one was the project leader, the other her longtime partner.
Lucian's anger flared at her adamant defense. "If I remember correctly, Jack was also involved in the previous fire at the research institute."
Roxanne looked at him, confused. "Mr. Damaris left after delivering the medicines. What do you mean by connecting him to the incident?"
To avoid an argument, she softened her tone. "You of all people know the medicines' origins. Why would Mr. Damaris do something so detrimental to himself?"
She looked at Lucian's cold expression, sighing inwardly. "Lucian, calm down. You can't make such accusations without evidence." His normally sharp, decisive nature was unsettling. His irrationality made her question if this was truly the Farwell Group CEO.
"I am calm," Lucian said coldly, fury simmering beneath the surface. "That storage room had no issues for years, yet it burns down the moment he stores his medicines. Isn't that suspicious?"
Roxanne patiently explained, "There were no problems when he stored the medicines. Ask Dr. Galloway; he was present." Her gaze remained fixed on Lucian's face, her own emotions unreadable. His anger regarding the fire seemed genuine; she no longer suspected him.
Lucian's expression shifted. "Your words remind me Dr. Galloway was also at the fire."
Roxanne realized her words had shifted suspicion to Colby. "This has nothing to do with them. We investigated; someone bribed a researcher to start the fireโฆ"
Lucian's expression darkened further. "And who else but Jack could do that?"
Roxanne was speechless again. She knew the truth in his words. Few in Horington could discreetly discover the background of research institute personnel and bribe them so quicklyโespecially those involved in the project.
Previously, she suspected Lucian; she hadn't considered other possibilities. Now, with her doubts about Lucian dispelled, Jack seemed increasingly suspicious. Yet, she still believed Jack lacked motive.
Lucian scoffed. "You trust him deeply. Your trust in Colby is built on years of cooperation, but Jack? How well do you truly know him?"
