Chapter 1225

Hearing Roxanneโ€™s apology, a flash of smugness crossed Colbyโ€™s eyes, but his tone remained concerned. โ€œAs long as you get better, it doesnโ€™t matter how tired I get. I thoughtโ€ฆ Forget it. Letโ€™s not talk about this. Why did you call?โ€

Uneasy, Roxanne said, โ€œIโ€™m afraid Iโ€™ll have to trouble you again.โ€

Colby had been busy since her collapse yesterday. A recent investigation required his assistance to secure necessary permissions. Roxanne felt deeply sorry for the burden she placed on him.

Colby, working overtime at the research institute reviewing surveillance footage, momentarily froze at Roxanneโ€™s words before regaining his composure. โ€œWhat is it? Go on. Iโ€™ll try my best to help.โ€

Roxanne smiled gratefully. โ€œMr. Farwell and I want to investigate yesterdayโ€™s incident. Weโ€™ll need permission to access the research institute, and therefore require your assistance.โ€

Colby tensed, his throat tightening. He didnโ€™t mind Roxanneโ€™s investigation, but Lucianโ€™s involvement was unexpected. He'd only asked Lucian to witness his fight with Jack, not to investigate him. Lucian's interference would be problematic; Colby doubted he could conceal the truth from Lucian's sharp eyes.

โ€œDr. Galloway?โ€ Roxanne urged, confused by his silence.

Colby snapped back to attention, forcing a calm tone. โ€œIโ€™m sorry. I was up all night yesterday, so I spaced out. All right, I understand. Let me know when you need help.โ€

Roxanne thanked him politely. โ€œThank you, and please get some rest.โ€

Absentmindedly, Colby agreed to help before hanging up after a few seconds. Lucian, having listened to their entire conversation, found Colbyโ€™s response peculiar. However, Colby was insignificant enough to dismiss as merely sleep-deprived.

โ€œIโ€™ve already contacted Dr. Galloway,โ€ Roxanneโ€™s voice announced from the ward. โ€œThis canโ€™t be delayed. If someone planned this, delaying will give them more time to destroy evidence. Letโ€™s begin the investigation immediately.โ€

Lucian, already aware of this, replied, โ€œI know. Iโ€™ll begin after youโ€™ve rested.โ€

Roxanne frowned. โ€œI want to participate. After all, this happened because of me. Iโ€™m the victim; I canโ€™t simply wait.โ€ She worried about Lucian investigating alone, fearing his prejudice against Jack might cloud his judgment.

Lucian, seeing through her, narrowed his eyes. โ€œAre you worried Iโ€™ll fabricate evidence against Jack?โ€

A flash of guilt crossed Roxanneโ€™s eyes, quickly masked. โ€œI just think it would be fairer.โ€

Lucian sneered. โ€œI understand, but your condition prevents that. The specialist advised rest. Donโ€™t worry. I only want the real culprit, though I suspect Jack. Iโ€™ll deal with him later!โ€

Their silence spoke volumes.
