Chapter 123: Should Have Just Killed Her
Aubree tensed at Lucian's tone; any hope she'd felt vanished instantly. Normally, she would have dressed meticulously before meeting him. But his thirty-minute deadline left her only time to grab her handbag before rushing off. Her house was far from the restaurant, requiring the taxi driver to speed to get her there on time.
Lucian was already waiting when she arrived. He looked up from his window seat as the door opened, his gaze colder than the night.
"What is it, Lucian?" Aubree asked, a guilty look on her face as she sat down.
A terrifying aura emanated from Lucian as he glared at her silently. Aubree clenched her fists, fighting to maintain a calm smile.
"You dropped Essie off this morning?" Lucian asked abruptly.
Aubree nodded vigorously. "Yes. Mrs. Farwell asked for my help."
Lucian snorted. "Did my mother also ask you to see the kindergarten head and expel two children on behalf of Farwell Group?"
Aubree paled, unprepared for his swift discovery. After a moment, she offered an excuse. "I saw those two children bullying Essie, so I confronted the headmaster" She looked at Lucian nervously. "I couldn't stand seeing them bully Essie, Lucian! You understand, right?"
Lucian raised an eyebrow. "I do, but where did this alleged bullying occur?"
"A-At the kindergarten entrance," Aubree stammered.
His eyes grew colder. "I'll have someone check the surveillance footage. I'll let this slide if it's true. Howeverโ"
Aubree cut him off anxiously at the mention of surveillance. "I-I was wrong! It wasn't at the kindergarten! It was atโฆ umโฆ"
She stammered, unable to think of a lie.
Lucian's patience snapped. "I won't question your previous misuse of Farwell Group's name. However, your actions today triggered Essie's autism! I will not show mercy if anything happens to her!"
A shiver ran down Aubree's spine as their eyes met. She believed him.
Lucian rose.
"Lucian!" Aubree called as he left.
He turned, his expression blank. "What else do you have to say? Give me a convincing explanation."
Aubree's lips trembled; she lowered her head in silence. It doesn't matter what I say. My lies will be exposed once he checks the footage.
When she looked up, Lucian was gone. Fear morphed into anger and hatred in her eyes.
Damn it! How did this happen? He found out, and it's all because of that little bitch! She's a pain in the neck! I should have just killed her this morning!
