Chapter 1236

Upon receiving his desired answer, Lucian raised an eyebrow. โ€œI shall graciously accept your invitation, then.โ€

Roxanne, despite having extended the invitation, felt awkward. It was a rare moment of harmony between them.

To her surprise, Lucian asked, โ€œDo you need any help?โ€

Roxanne was speechless for a moment. Snapping back to reality, she awkwardly shook her head. โ€œNo need. You can help me watch the children.โ€

A hint of disappointment flickered across his face, but he nodded. She expected him to enter the living room, but he simply leaned against the kitchen entrance, gazing at her. Confused, she watched him.

Noticing her confusion, Lucian explained, โ€œI can watch them from here. Besides, youโ€™re eager to learn about my investigation, arenโ€™t you? I can tell you a little while you prepare dinner.โ€

Though still uncomfortable, Roxanne quietly resumed preparing dinner, intrigued by the investigation. As he watched her work, he recalled her six years ago, tirelessly preparing his meals, a dedication he had never appreciated. The guilt gnawed at him, fueling his determination to win her back.

The children, having waited patiently in the living room, approached the kitchen curiously. โ€œDaddy?โ€ โ€œMommy?โ€ they called in unison. Seeing their parents, they fell silent, observing the scene as if it were a painting: Lucian, as always, imposing, and Roxanne, diligently working. Archie hushed his siblings, and they retreated to the living room.

Lucian glanced back at the sound of their movements, grinning before returning his attention to Roxanne. His gaze made her tense, slowing her work. Dinner took longer than usual.

Just as she was about to serve a dish, Lucian smoothly took over. Roxanne froze, complex emotions swirling within her. If he had treated me like this six years ago, she thought, perhaps I wouldn't have leftโ€ฆ But it was too late for such thoughts.

He set a dish on the table, then, returning for another, noticed her stillness. โ€œWhatโ€™s the matter?โ€ he asked, his brow furrowed.

His voice startled her from her reverie. Suppressing her emotions, she smiled. โ€œNothing. I was just curious about your investigation.โ€

Lucian sensed her unease. โ€œAre you feeling unwell?โ€

Her eyelashes trembled as she vaguely nodded. โ€œMaybe Iโ€™m a little dizzy from sleeping too long yesterday. Iโ€™ll be fine after I adjust my routine.โ€

She hastily returned to preparing dinner.
