Chapter 1249
At the sight of Lucian, Roxanne's heart lurched, and her eyes reddened. After many knocks yielded no answer, Lucian yelled, "Roxanne, open the door!"
Biting her lip, Roxanne called him. Lucian, frowning, answered, "Where are you? Is no one home?"
Roxanne fought back tears, forcing a calm tone. "I need some time alone. Please go home."
Lucian understood. "You're home, aren't you? No, I won't go. Please open the door. Let's talk."
Tears finally flowed. Roxanne ended the call and moved away from the window, but felt troubled as she sat on her bed.
Seeing the call end, Lucian stopped ringing the doorbell. Instead, he banged on it, shouting, "Roxanne, open the door! Let's talk! I won't leave until you see me!"
The children, in the living room, were brainstorming ways to cheer Roxanne when they heard the commotion. Their eyes lit up.
"Daddy! It's Daddy!" Estella's face was tear-streaked, but her voice was joyous. She leaped from the couch to open the door.
Seeing the children, Lucian's brow furrowed. Worry etched his features. "Where is she?"
The children knew. Estella pointed upstairs, choking back tears, "U-Upstairs. Daddy, go check on her!"
Lucian's gaze darkened at their reddened eyes. He calmly glanced toward Roxanne's room before entering the living room, followed by Archie, Benny, and Estella.
"Two bad women came looking for Mommy!" Benny complained.
Lucian's deep voice resonated. "I know. That's why I rushed over." He squatted, meeting their eyes. "Tell me what those women said to your Mommy."
Benny's eyes flickered. Roxanne shielded the children from her conflicts with Lucian, but Aubree and Frieda had overstepped.
Before Benny could speak, Archie blurted out, "They said Mommy's a homewrecker who ruined your engagement. They forced her to stay away from you and Essie. They even tried to hit Essie. When Mommy stopped them, they hit her."
Archie's account was clear and concise, omitting Roxanne's counterattack against Aubree and Frieda.
Lucian's expression darkened. Aubree Pearson! How dare she attack someone he cared about?
"Mr. Farwell, is Mommy really a homewrecker?" Benny asked, tears welling in his eyes.
