Chapter 1259
โLucian, what are you talking aboutโโ Aubree wouldnโt admit her wrongdoing, so she feigned ignorance.
Lucian cut her off. โOur joke of an engagement has dragged on for six years. Itโs over. After your discharge, Iโll announce the end to our families. Iโm doing this for Old Mr. Pearson; cooperate.โ
Aubreeโs eyes widened. Six years to win another chance with Lucian, only to have her dream shatter so close to realization. How could he be so cruel? She wouldn't let him win. Six years of hard work wouldn't be for naught.
Ignoring her arm, Aubree grabbed Lucianโs shirt. Her hand trembled, pain wracking her. โLucian, give me another chance. I was wrong; I wonโt repeat my mistake!โ
He stared coldly as she pleaded, โIโll do anything! I wonโt see Ms. Jarvis! Forgive me! Iโve waited years. Does that mean nothing?โ
โIf you cared, you wouldnโt have repeatedly crossed the line!โ Lucian retorted impatiently.
Tears welled in Aubreeโs eyes. โI was jealous! She was gone for six years, yet you were kind to her on her return. I waited six years, and you couldnโt spare me a glanceโโ
Lucian coldly shook off her hand.
Aubree cried out, breaking into a cold sweat, desperately trying to hold onto him. Lucian stepped back indifferently. โIf you understand your mistake, stay away from them. Otherwise, Iโll disregard our past. This mercy is only for Old Mr. Pearsonโs sake!โ
He turned and left, leaving Aubree staring at his retreating back.
โLucian!โ she screamed, but he didnโt falter.
Tears streamed down her face as the door closed. Hysteria consumed her. It was over. Six years maintaining the engagementโฆ all for nothing.
Meanwhile, Frieda froze at the doorway before Jonathan forcefully dragged her back to her ward. Her arm, still healing, protested with a hiss of pain.
โAre you mad? Iโm your sister, and Iโm injured! How could you?โ Frieda raged, regaining her balance.
Jonathan glared. โYou're a queen, remember? Look at your foolish actions! Do you care about our family?โ
Fear flickered in Friedaโs eyes, remembering Lucianโs gaze, but she maintained a brave faรงade. โWhat makes you think I donโt care? Who benefits after I help Aubree become Mrs. Farwell?โ
โIdiot!โ Jonathan exclaimed, exasperated.
