Chapter 1259

โ€œLucian, what are you talking aboutโ€”โ€ Aubree wouldnโ€™t admit her wrongdoing, so she feigned ignorance.

Lucian cut her off. โ€œOur joke of an engagement has dragged on for six years. Itโ€™s over. After your discharge, Iโ€™ll announce the end to our families. Iโ€™m doing this for Old Mr. Pearson; cooperate.โ€

Aubreeโ€™s eyes widened. Six years to win another chance with Lucian, only to have her dream shatter so close to realization. How could he be so cruel? She wouldn't let him win. Six years of hard work wouldn't be for naught.

Ignoring her arm, Aubree grabbed Lucianโ€™s shirt. Her hand trembled, pain wracking her. โ€œLucian, give me another chance. I was wrong; I wonโ€™t repeat my mistake!โ€

He stared coldly as she pleaded, โ€œIโ€™ll do anything! I wonโ€™t see Ms. Jarvis! Forgive me! Iโ€™ve waited years. Does that mean nothing?โ€

โ€œIf you cared, you wouldnโ€™t have repeatedly crossed the line!โ€ Lucian retorted impatiently.

Tears welled in Aubreeโ€™s eyes. โ€œI was jealous! She was gone for six years, yet you were kind to her on her return. I waited six years, and you couldnโ€™t spare me a glanceโ€”โ€

Lucian coldly shook off her hand.

Aubree cried out, breaking into a cold sweat, desperately trying to hold onto him. Lucian stepped back indifferently. โ€œIf you understand your mistake, stay away from them. Otherwise, Iโ€™ll disregard our past. This mercy is only for Old Mr. Pearsonโ€™s sake!โ€

He turned and left, leaving Aubree staring at his retreating back.

โ€œLucian!โ€ she screamed, but he didnโ€™t falter.

Tears streamed down her face as the door closed. Hysteria consumed her. It was over. Six years maintaining the engagementโ€ฆ all for nothing.

Meanwhile, Frieda froze at the doorway before Jonathan forcefully dragged her back to her ward. Her arm, still healing, protested with a hiss of pain.

โ€œAre you mad? Iโ€™m your sister, and Iโ€™m injured! How could you?โ€ Frieda raged, regaining her balance.

Jonathan glared. โ€œYou're a queen, remember? Look at your foolish actions! Do you care about our family?โ€

Fear flickered in Friedaโ€™s eyes, remembering Lucianโ€™s gaze, but she maintained a brave faรงade. โ€œWhat makes you think I donโ€™t care? Who benefits after I help Aubree become Mrs. Farwell?โ€

โ€œIdiot!โ€ Jonathan exclaimed, exasperated.
