Chapter 1302
โIโm right outside Farwell Group,โ Cory said quickly.
Lucian inclined his head, gesturing for Cayden to collect Cory. โMy assistant will be coming for you,โ he told Cayden.
Cory murmured his agreement, waiting for Lucian to hang up before nervously exiting his car. Cayden soon appeared at the entrance. Cory joined him and they entered the elevator. It stopped at the top floor. Cayden led him to Lucianโs office, knocked, and gestured for Cory to enter alone.
Coryโs legs felt weak as the door opened. He shakily asked Cayden, โArenโt you coming in with me?โ
Cayden offered a polite smile. โMr. Farwell wishes to speak to you privately.โ His expression then turned cold.
Cory hesitated, but pressed on, already committed to his plan. He entered. Lucian sat at his desk, working. Upon seeing Cory, he put down his documents, crossed his arms, and after a curt nod, said, โPlease take a seat, Mr. Zaythrone.โ
Cory sat stiffly, his smile strained. โYou said you have information to sell. Begin,โ Lucian said, impassive.
Despite Lucianโs calm demeanor, Cory felt a weight on his chest. โBefore that, Iโd like a guarantee, Mr. Farwell.โ
Lucian raised an eyebrow, prompting Cory to continue.
โIn our line of work, we take the money and do the job. We work for clients; we donโt always have a choice.โ Cory attempted to deflect responsibility.
Lucian smiled. โTell me what it is, and I will judge for myself.โ
Stumped, but with no way out, Cory continued. Lucian stared at him, asking, โWho is your client? Aubree Pearson?โ
Cory broke into a cold sweat, staring at Lucian in terror. If Lucian already knew about Aubree, what else did he know? What use was his information now?
โItโs her!โ Cory confessed hastily. โShe forced me! I donโt know what sheโs trying to do! She only asked where Ms. Jarvis and the children were. I didnโt think anything of it. I never imagined sheโd poison their bottles!โ
Lucianโs eyes darkened. โAre you referring to when Roxanne brought the children to camp?โ He remembered Roxanneโs previous account of Aubree poisoning the children's drinks. Heโd done nothing then for lack of evidence. If Aubree was behind that, she was likely behind the incident where Archie and Benny were attacked by older children while visiting Estella.
Lucian berated himself for even considering giving Aubree another chance. Letting her into the Farwell family would have been disastrous.
โDo you have evidence?โ Lucian asked.
Cory produced the photographs heโd taken.
