Chapter 135: Keeping Roxanne Out of the Family

Sonya frowned. "Aubree, what are you talking about? It's impossible for Lucian to be with Roxanne. I've already asked him, and he said he's not getting back together with her. Don't worry."

Aubree continued to sob. "But Essie is with Roxanne all day! She's living at Roxanne's place. Essie loves her. If Lucian isn't with her, why would he let Roxanne care for Essie?"

Aubree, despite Lucian's reprimands, had been spying on Roxanne. Learning Estella was staying with Roxanne, she panicked, telling her parents, who then scolded her before sending her to apologize to Sonya and Elias. After Sonya forgave her, Aubree complained.

Sonya was shocked. "This is ridiculous! Who told him to do this?" After calming herself, she consoled Aubree, "Don't worry. They won't get back together. Even if Lucian wants it, I won't let that woman back into this family!"

Aubree looked at Sonya, seeking reassurance.

Sonya said grimly, "That woman abandoned Essie. I won't let her care for her again!"

Aubree felt a surge of confidence. After more conversation, Gina took Aubree away. They'd gotten Sonya's promise—their goal achieved with just a few tears from Aubree. Not only did Sonya not blame Aubree for hitting the child, she felt sorry for her and promised to keep Roxanne out of the family. They'd accomplished two things at once.

Sonya lay awake most of the night, troubled by Aubree's words. She'd promised to keep Roxanne away not only to comfort Aubree, but because she genuinely hated Roxanne. Roxanne had abandoned Lucian and Estella once; Sonya feared she'd do it again. I can't believe he's even considering letting her back into the family, she thought, growing angrier. That night, she sent men to find Roxanne, planning a visit.

The next morning, Roxanne was having breakfast with the children when the doorbell rang. Catalina stayed with the children while Roxanne answered the door. Expecting Lucian to pick up the children for kindergarten, she was stunned to see Sonya, impeccably dressed. Sonya coldly surveyed Roxanne and the house, searching for Estella.

Roxanne, realizing this wasn't a friendly visit, greeted Sonya warily, "Mrs. Farwell."

Sonya inclined her head slightly, then glared. "Is this your hospitality? Leaving your guest at the door?"

Roxanne, suppressing her emotions, stepped aside. "Please come in."
