Chapter 1355
Panic flooded Roxanne's face at the question. Archie and Benny's father stood before her, yet she couldn't answer. Lucian understood her silence. "It's okay if you don't want to tell me," he said gently. "I'll look into it myself. I'll find out, eventually."
"Don't," Roxanne frowned.
Lucian's expression darkened. Just who is this man? she wondered. Roxanne kept her head lowered, a storm of emotions swirling in her eyes. "I'll tell you when the time is right. Just don't investigate." She had to be the one to tell him about the boys' identities. She couldn't bear to imagine his reaction if he discovered the truth himself.
Lucian fell silent. Seeing her anxiety, he relented. "Okay. I'll wait for you to tell me." He'd braced himself for the worst, imagining Roxanne might have been exploited in the past. He trusted her feelings from six years ago, believing they hadn't faded. Perhaps she'd been forced to raise these boysโฆ The thought filled him with remorse.
Unaware of his turmoil, Roxanne offered a grateful smile. Lucian couldn't bear her worry. He rose. "Take care of the children. I'll handle the online discussion. Don't worry." I couldn't protect her for the past six years. Now that we're together, I won't let anyone harm her again. He turned and left.
After he departed, Roxanne went upstairs. The children were in Archie and Benny's room. Estella played with toys, ignored by her brothers, who huddled over the computer, following the shifting online discussion.
"Mommy's not like that! It must be that evil woman," Benny fumed, balling his fists. "I'm going to teach her a lesson!" He placed the laptop on his lap, ready to retaliate when a knock sounded.
The boys exchanged glances, quickly closing the laptop and opening the door with smiles. Roxanne stood there. "Something's wrong with the study laptop," she said. "Can I borrow yours for a while?"
The children were getting too clever; they'd notice the online commotion if they used the laptop. Roxanne needed to prevent their involvement, so she decided to temporarily confiscate it. The boys, naturally, guessed her plan and hesitated. We haven't even taught that evil woman a lesson for bullying Mommy! But recalling Lucian's restaurant promise, relief washed over them. Daddy won't let that evil woman off.
Finally, they relented. "Okay," Archie said casually. "I was just looking at the stock market. Give me a moment, Mommy." He opened the laptop, cleared the browsing history, and handed it to Roxanne.
Roxanne breathed a sigh of relief. "I'll get to work then. Take care of Essie, okay?"
The boys nodded obediently. Their faces fell as they watched Roxanne enter the study with the laptop. Hopefully, Daddy can help us teach that evil woman a lesson.
