Chapter 1362
Roxanne was unaware of the children's involvement in Aubree's predicament. Waking the following morning, she immediately checked the online discussion. Lucian's announcement from the previous night dominated the trending topics, overshadowing all others. The related search terms had also been largely purged. Roxanne considered the matter resolved and felt a sense of relief.
She was getting ready to prepare breakfast when Jack called. Answering immediately, she assumed it concerned the project. "What happened, Mr. Damaris?" she asked, apologetic, fearing the recent gossip might impact their work.
Jack's voice was concerned. "Are you alright? I saw the online comments yesterday and considered visiting, but I was swamped. Now that I have time, I'm calling to check if they've upset you."
Roxanne felt a wave of warmth. "Thank you for your concern, Mr. Damaris. I'm fine. The matter is resolved, though I worry it might affect our project."
Jack laughed, unconcerned. "I'm just glad you're okay. I've handled the project; nothing will happen."
"Thank you for your hard work," Roxanne said gratefully. "I'm well-rested and will return next week."
"No rush," Jack replied, his tone mysterious. "I'm not calling about that. I thought you might be feeling down, so I wondered if you'd like a day out."
Roxanne frowned, about to refuse, when Jack interrupted, "Don't be hasty. A day out is secondary. Primarily, my grandfather wants me to take you to a Damaris family medical consultation to teach you some of our family's medical arts."
Hector's name left Roxanne unable to refuse, further tempted by the prospect of learning the Damaris family's secrets.
Jack explained, "There's a nursing home in Jadeborough. The administrator absconded with funds, leaving many elderly residents and understaffed caregivers. Some have starved; others suffered relapses. The Damaris family is sending every doctor from the project to Jadeborough next week to help. Grandpa recognizes your skill and insisted I include you."
He added, concerned, "It'll take two days. If you can't spare the time, I understand; you have your children."
Roxanne readily agreed to the chance to learn the Damaris family's medical arts and assist those in need. "All right, I'll be there."
Jack's voice brightened. "Then I'll be waiting."
