That night, Jonathan barely slept after receiving a message from Lucian. At daybreak, he strode into the Farwell residence.

“Mr. Queen,” Catalina greeted him.

Jonathan nodded. “Where’s Lucian?”

“He went to his study after breakfast.”

Jonathan thanked Catalina and went upstairs. He couldn't rest until he understood Lucian's message. Just as he was about to knock, the door opened.

“What are you doing here?” Lucian asked, giving Jonathan a placid look before inviting him in.

Jonathan was taken aback. Why was Lucian even asking? He obviously wanted clarification on the previous night's message. He'd followed Lucian's orders countless times, but this felt different, a sudden, unwelcome burden that had robbed him of sleep.

“Lucian, aren't you being unreasonable?” Jonathan exclaimed, seating himself opposite Lucian. “Why did you involve me in this Pearson family mess? While everyone's criticizing them, wouldn't it be inappropriate for the Queen family to join in?”

Before Lucian's engagement with Aubree was canceled, the Farwell, Pearson, and Queen families had been close. Now, with the fractured relationship between the Farwells and Pearsons, Queen family involvement in the Pearson Group takeover would look bad. Jonathan had to consider the Queen family's interests, despite his disapproval of Aubree's actions.

Lucian raised an eyebrow, incredulous. “What's wrong? You're not the one engaged to her. Don't tell me you secretly harbor feelings for her?”

Jonathan bristled. “Me? Interested in her? Preposterous!” He added, “The last thing I want is to be near her.”

Lucian frowned. “Then what's the problem? The Queen family has always been close to the Farwells. Now that we've distanced ourselves from the Pearsons, you'll have to make your stand public sooner or later.”

Jonathan, seeing the truth in Lucian's words, merely wrinkled his brows.

Lucian continued, “Furthermore, Queen Group and Pearson Group are both in the medical industry. It's natural for the former to acquire the latter. It’s a brilliant opportunity for expansion.”

Jonathan couldn't deny the logic. His wavering gaze revealed his internal conflict. Weighing the consequences was precisely why he'd been unable to sleep. While damaging Queen Group's reputation, the expansion's benefits outweighed the risks. The relationship between the Queen and Pearson families had been built on their connection to the Farwells; that connection was now severed.

Considering this, Jonathan decided. “I understand. Leave it to me.” His earlier hesitation seemed unfounded.

Lucian smiled, relieved. “I haven't forgotten your recent help. The Pearson family assets will be my way of thanking you.”
