Chapter 1426
The Damaris family's medicinal herb company, run primarily by family members, was the envy of outsiders. Lucian's silence followed this revelation. However, it piqued Jonathan's interest. "Why? Is Roxanne working with the Damaris family again? Do you need my help?"
Lucian detected the derision in Jonathan's voice and snickered. "Go acquire the Damaris family's company if you want to help."
Jonathan sheepishly rubbed his nose. "Anything but that."
"Then there's nothing you can do. Bye." Lucian hung up.
Jonathan stared at his darkened phone screen, a look of reproach on his face. This was the second time Lucian had roused him in the middle of the night, only to drop a bombshell and hang up, leaving Jonathan struggling to return to sleep. "Great," he muttered. "Looks like I won't sleep at all tonight."
He lay back down, scrolling through his phone, attempting to fall asleep. A trending social media post immediately caught his eye: "Breaking news! Roxanne Jarvis, Lucian Farwell's ex-wife, was spotted secretly meeting the eldest Damaris son!"
Jonathan initially thought he was hallucinating. He crawled out of bed, stared at the post, confirming what he read before clicking to learn more. Several pictures showed Roxanne and Jack seated face-to-face at a restaurant window, conversing and enjoying each other's company. Some shots captured the gleam in Roxanne's eyes. Even Jonathan found himself speculating about their relationship. Then he read the comments:
Netizen A: Roxanne Jarvis? Didn't she just reunite with Mr. Farwell?
Netizen B: She didn't clarify the rumors about Mr. Damaris. Now it seems there is something between them!
Netizen C: I guess being pretty has its perks. She's got two handsome, wealthy men falling for her!
The comments were rife with slander and speculation about Roxanne's relationships with Jack and Lucian. Jonathan grew increasingly alarmed. "No wonder Lucian asked me that," he realized. "Another family would have crumbled like the Pearsons or Hightowers. Lucian's met a formidable opponent this time. I wonder what Roxanne thinks."
Sleep remained elusive. Jonathan immediately sent Lucian a link to the post. Meanwhile, Lucian had just returned to the Farwell residence. Confused by the link, he asked, "What's this?"
Jonathan replied, "Just click it. Otherwise, you'll regret it tomorrow."
Lucian furrowed his brow at Jonathan's reply, clicking the link while washing up. The post's title made him stop brushing his teeth. Seeing the photos, his face fell. He acknowledged both Jack and Roxanne's skills as doctors, believing Roxanne's claim that their meeting concerned medicine. However, he hadn't anticipated Roxanne's evident happiness with Jack. She had never smiled at him like that.
Grabbing a towel, he dried his face and sat on his bed, scrolling through the comments with a solemn expression. His face darkened as he read the myriad of speculations about Roxanne and Jack's relationship.
