Chapter 1430

Jonathanโ€™s jaw dropped. If the children weren't Lucian's, why was he so calm compared to Jonathan's own frantic state?

โ€œWhat are you thinking?โ€ he asked incredulously. โ€œIf you want to help Roxanne stop the online hate, publicize your relationship and issue cease-and-desist letters. Why do this?โ€ Revealing that the Farwell Group CEO claimed paternity of his ex-wife's children, when they weren't his, was ludicrous. Yet, that's precisely what Lucian had done.

โ€œIf I only did that, netizens would still assume the worst about the boysโ€™ father,โ€ Lucian explained, displeasure flashing in his eyes. โ€œThe kids are innocent. If she marries me, itโ€™s only a matter of time before they become mine, too.โ€ He knew Roxanne wouldn't want to drag the children into her troubles, so he was willing to solve it for her. He meant it. The only way to stop the malicious assumptions was to clarify the boys' parentage.

Jonathan concluded his friend was a lovesick fool. It seems we underestimated him. Lucian doesn't fall in love easily, but when he doesโ€ฆ Then, Jonathan realized something. โ€œWho is the boysโ€™ father? Heโ€™s never revealed himself. If he sees this statementโ€ฆโ€

Lucian's statement was clear. If the boysโ€™ father discovered it, he might threaten Farwell Group. What then?

A vicious look appeared in Lucianโ€™s eyes at the mere mention of the man. He understood Jonathanโ€™s apprehension; heโ€™d had the same concern. But that paled compared to the malicious comments targeting Roxanne. If the biological father dared to appear, Lucian would make him regret abandoning Roxanne and the boys.

A sense of murderous intent hung heavy in the air. Jonathan shuddered, staring at Lucian.

In an icy voice, Lucian declared, โ€œNo matter who he is, I won't let him harm my family. I'll make him regret abandoning them!โ€

Jonathan worried. โ€œWhat if Roxanne regrets it?โ€ He didnโ€™t specify, but they both knew what he meant. Roxanne had two sons with that man; feelings might still exist. If she regretted her decision and returned to himโ€ฆ

A chill ran down Jonathan's spine. The temperature around Lucian plummeted, but he refused to dwell on it. โ€œPerhaps heโ€™s already dead.โ€ Otherwise, why hadnโ€™t he appeared? And Roxanne seemed hesitant to discuss him. Lucian preferred believing the man was dead to the possibility of Roxanne returning to him.

Jonathan was startled by the dark look on his friendโ€™s face, but he remained silent. This was complicated; Lucian had clearly thought this through. More words would only add to his burden.
