While reporters' photos showed a woman at the helicopter door, Jack knew Lucian was behind her. He thought the matter concluded when celebrity scandals dominated the news that afternoon. The next day, he planned to meet Roxanne, using the project as an excuse. To his surprise, her assistant said she wasn't at the research institute. This continued for several days. Jack, despite his initial obliviousness, realized Roxanne had left with Lucian, and he anxiously awaited their return.

A week passed, infuriating him. Still agitated, he said, "The project is about to begin, yet the person in charge is missing. What am I supposed to say, Ms. Jarvis?"

Roxanne felt guilty, apologizing profusely. "I'm so sorry. A personal matter required me to lie low, inadvertently delaying the project. You have every right to be angry, Mr. Damaris. I promise I won't disappear again once we start. You can reach me anytime!"

He was satisfied. Knowing their whereabouts or activities didn't matter; her accessibility was key. His thoughts concluded, and he softened his tone. "Don't you think you should compensate for my wasted trips, Ms. Jarvis? An apology isn't enough!"

Relieved, Roxanne grinned. "Of course! Tell me when you're free, and I'll treat you to dinner."

"I'll choose the location. You'll be spending a considerable amount, Ms. Jarvis."

"As long as I improve your mood, I'm happy to spend whatever is necessary."

"We'll also discuss the project's progress. The delay was due to your absence, after all."

"I apologize."

"Forget it. We can't recover lost time. I'm content as long as our collaboration is successful. I still believe in your institute's capabilities."

They ended the call. Roxanne turned to Linda, exclaiming, "You were right. Mr. Damaris was upset. Were any other projects delayed?"

Linda shook her head. "Everything was fine." She studied Roxanne intently. "Dr. Jarvis, about the news about Mr. Damaris… I—"

Roxanne anticipated her concerns. "Don't believe what you see online. Damaris Group is a vital partner. Treat him as usual."

Linda nodded. Later, Jack texted Roxanne, specifying the time and location for their dinner. She spoke briefly with Linda before leaving the research institute.
