“Fiancée?” Kai retorted, a knowing look in his eyes. “Which fiancée are you talking about? A lot has happened in Mr. Farwell's life during your absence!”

Shawn's heart sank. “What do you mean? Isn't Aubree Pearson his fiancée?”

Kai burst out laughing. “That was eight hundred years ago! Even then, I noticed Lucian's indifference toward Aubree. I found it remarkable that the Farwell and Pearson families maintained the engagement for so long.”

Shawn remained silent, listening to his friend's account.

“The Farwells broke off the engagement two years ago. Lucian even implied Aubree was of poor character. It turns out his ex-wife returned to the country with two children. Now, the Pearson family is being financially ruined by the Farwells, and Lucian is back with his ex-wife!”

Kai's animated gossiping betrayed his eagerness to participate in the drama. Who would have imagined Lucian's love life would be so turbulent?

Shawn was equally shocked. He'd always considered Lucian cold and never anticipated this. Disappointment washed over him; his previous night's plans had crumbled. “I can’t believe they called off their engagement. Such a pity. Then again, that woman isn't bad at all.”

This time, Kai was taken aback. “Which woman are you talking about?” He added anxiously, "Don't tell me my good friend slept with Lucian's ex-wife the moment he returned."

Shawn chuckled. “Aubree, of course. Who else? I thought they were still engaged!”

Everything had unfolded too rapidly the previous night. Seeing Frieda with Aubree, he'd assumed the families remained close. He hadn't had time to learn the truth.

However, all was not lost. That woman was intriguing. The only downside? He'd slept with Lucian's "garbage."

Kai breathed a sigh of relief. “Given the Pearson family's current predicament, paying for one night with her shouldn't be a problem.” He paused, a sudden realization dawning. “Were you the one who posted that photo online?”

Shawn admitted casually, “Yes. Unfortunately, I didn't achieve my goal.”

Having been friends for years, Kai understood. Shawn had long been suppressed by Lucian and aimed to humiliate him. As usual, his plan backfired.

Kai sighed empathetically. “You pull off such a stunt the moment you return home. Looks like you intend to openly challenge Lucian this time.”

Undisguised ambition shone in Shawn's eyes, yet his tone remained nonchalant.

“I just want to assert my dominance. That's all. Even if my plan failed, it’s fine. I'm not in a hurry to compete with him. Lucian's made significant progress in Horington over the years. Defeating him will take time and careful planning.”

Shawn omitted one detail: Lucian's defeat was inevitable. The world would soon recognize Lucian as a loser, and he, Shawn Crawford, as the true business genius.

Kai smiled respectfully. “I'm on your side. Show Lucian who you really are.”

Shawn chuckled, remaining silent.
