After placing two suspects under surveillance, the police immediately contacted Lucian.

“What? You don’t know where she is?”

The update caused Lucian to frown. “What did Samuel and Gina say?”

“They have no idea where she is, and we’ve searched everywhere. Since you and Aubree were previously… perhaps she might agree to meet if you initiated contact.”

Essentially, they wanted Lucian to act as bait.

Lucian glanced at Roxanne, who stood beside him, his brow slightly furrowed. Roxanne, unable to hear their conversation, gave him a quizzical look when their eyes met.

“I understand. I’ll try,” Lucian replied before disconnecting the call.

Roxanne asked anxiously, “What’s wrong?”

“Aubree has disappeared. Samuel claims he kicked her out after the incident with the photo. No one knows where she is,” Lucian explained solemnly. “The police want me to contact her, hoping to lure her out.”

Roxanne nodded, but her worried expression remained.

Lucian called Cayden, instructing him to lead a team to assist the police in their search. He then contacted Aubree.

Meanwhile, a distraught Aubree sat on the hotel bed, staring at Ophelia’s contact. After waiting a full day for news of Roxanne, she tried to contact Ophelia regarding their plan. Unfortunately, she was unable to reach Ophelia despite calling throughout the night. Just as she was about to try again, her phone rang—it was Lucian.

Aubree tensed. Her phone nearly slipped from her trembling hands. Lucian? Why is he calling now? Questions flooded her mind. In the past, she would have answered without hesitation, but now, her instincts screamed danger.

However… what if?

Torn between her longing for things to return to normal and her apprehension, Aubree finally answered. “Lucian, it’s late. What is it?” she said warmly.

Lucian’s deep voice filled her ear. “Where are you? Let’s meet. Perhaps there’s been a misunderstanding about what happened.”

Aubree’s eyes brightened.

Just as she was about to reply, she heard police sirens wailing downstairs. Snapping back to reality, she clenched her free hand into a fist; the hand holding the phone trembled uncontrollably. Before Lucian could speak further, she ended the call.

Lucian called out of the blue after so long… With his resources, he must know about my parents’ house. Yet, he asked for my location first. He knows I’m not at the mansion and is looking for me! This means Ophelia was caught and betrayed me. I can’t meet him; it would be my ruin. He probably tracked my location through the call.

Understanding this, Aubree leaped from the bed, grabbed her coat, and left the hotel discreetly.
