Chapter 154: Give Up On Him

One afternoon, Aubree and Frieda sat opposite each other at Thousand Degrees Cafe, sipping coffee and chatting. They began discussing Alfred's seventieth birthday banquet.

"Aubree, will you be attending my grandpa's seventieth birthday banquet?" Frieda asked pointedly.

Aubree, aware of the Queen family's close relationship with the Farwells, knew she should attend. "I'm going. Why?" she replied, nodding.

Frieda asked, "Will Lucian be going with you? Everyone knows you're a couple!"

Aubree hesitated. She knew Lucian would be there, but hadn't expected him to invite her. Although their engagement remained, his behavior toward her was indifferent.

Unaware of Aubree's anxieties, Frieda continued, "You both must attend together. You can show that woman who you are!" Frieda resented Roxanne's coldness and had arranged this meeting to discuss the banquet. "Roxanne is nothing without Lucian's protection. I want to show her who Lucian truly loves!"

Aubree understood Frieda's meaning. Remembering Lucian's treatment of Roxanne, her heart sank. "Of course," she replied immediately. "Lucian and I are a couple. We'll attend the banquet together."

Frieda was thrilled. "Wonderful! That woman has been so arrogant lately. She'll be shocked to see you with Lucian!"

Aubree shared her excitement. Roxanne's return had caused her considerable distress. Good, she thought, I can use this to make her give up on Lucian completely!

After finishing their coffee and doing some shopping, Aubree and Frieda parted ways. Back home, Aubree grew anxious about the upcoming banquet. She'd promised Frieda, but how would she convince Lucian?

After some thought, Aubree decided to call Sonya.

"What is it?" Sonya answered immediately.

Aubree apologized, "Mrs. Farwell, I heard Old Mr. Queen is having a birthday banquet. Will Lucian be attending?"

"He will," Sonya replied. Remembering Aubree and Lucian's quarrel over Estella, she added, "When the time comes, you should apologize to him. I'll put in a good word. You shouldn't continue fighting."

Aubree agreed, but added, "Lucian keeps avoiding me. I'm afraid he won't want to see me at the banquet." She tried to sound distressed.

Sonya hadn't considered this. After a pause, she said, "That won't happen. Just get ready. I'll tell Lucian to pick you up and attend with you."

Delighted but feigning nervousness, Aubree replied, "Certainly, I'll get ready."

Sonya then discussed other matters before hanging up. Aubree couldn't hide her joy. The solution had been surprisingly easy. I can't wait to see Roxanne's face when I arrive at the banquet with Lucian!
