Chapter 1542: Nothing Left To Discuss
โRoxanne possesses the technology; the Damaris familyโs medicinal herbs yielded only one batch of medicine. If youโre dissatisfied with the profit split, thatโs fine. The profits from this batch, using your herbs, can be divided as you wish. However, the research institute retains the right to contract solely for this batch.โ
Lucian slowed his speech. โThis means, after this batch is sold, Roxanne can find another herb supplier, as she holds the manufacturing technology. But can Damaris Group find another research institute to produce this medicine?โ
His words highlighted the instituteโs advantageous position. Damaris Group wasn't Roxanne's only option; conversely, Damaris Group relied solely on Roxanne. Therefore, the research institute should have held the dominant position from the outset. Jack's decision now lay between long-term, stable returns or high short-term profit.
Jack hadn't anticipated Lucian's maneuver. He met Lucianโs gaze impassively, then addressed Roxanne. โMs. Jarvis, are you certain you wish to negotiate this collaboration solely on a business basis? Do you view Damaris Group as merely a disposable asset?โ
She glanced at Lucian, who nodded. Roxanne considered this, then remained silent, lips pursed.
Lucian stated firmly, โThere are no friends in business. Mr. Damaris, you should understand this better than Roxanne. Profit division is always the most contentious aspect. Aren't you attempting to manipulate Roxanneโs emotions with appeals to friendship, forcing an unfair concession?โ
Jackโs negotiating skills paled in comparison to Lucian's. His face contorted with anger. After a silent moment, he said stiffly, โI cannot accept this profit division.โ
Lucian responded, โPerhaps I should show you Farwell Group's profit-sharing arrangements when we control the technology. You might find the current offer acceptable then.โ
This implied that under Lucian's management, the Damaris family's share would decrease further. The friendly faรงade on Jackโs face vanished, replaced by a grim expression.
โIf you accept my offer, we sign now. If not, our institute will hire a third party to evaluate Damaris Groupโs contribution and compensate you tenfold,โ Roxanne said, sliding the agreement toward him.
Without looking, Jack tore it in half and threw it back. Roxanne was startled. Jack had always presented a gentlemanly demeanor; as heir to a prominent traditional medicine family, she assumed heโd maintain a polite faรงade. His impulsiveness surprised her.
Tension filled the office.
โIf I recall correctly,โ Jack said, โwe agreed to share the patent and profits equally. Your unilateral alteration leaves no room for discussion.โ
Roxanne frowned. โYou also promised access to medical texts. I agreed to share the patent because of that. However, I received no such texts and developed this technology independently. I have no reason to share the patent.โ
