Chapter 1717: Incomparable

Lucian nodded, signaling Cayden to drive Peregrine to the research institute. Only Roxanne and Lucian remained in the ward.

After Peregrine's departure, Roxanne addressed Madilyn. "Old Mr. Lomax is en route. Follow his instructions upon his arrival." The trio quickly finished the lunch Linda had brought.

Hearing Roxanne's words, Madilyn nodded and asked, "Are you alright, Roxanne?" Madilyn was worried; even in a few hours, Roxanne's pallor and weak voice were evident through the screen.

Smiling, Roxanne reassured her, "Everything's fine. I'm holding on. Nothing will happen to me." A grimace betrayed her pain.

Madilyn, though concerned, knew further discussion was unproductive. The priority was determining the antidote's composition, deducing the poison's key component, and developing a counteragent. With a serious expression, she vowed, "I won't let anything happen to you. I'll figure out the antidote's components!"

"Thanks for your help," Roxanne beamed gratefully. "I'm Archie's and Benny's godmother! Even without you, I'd do this for them! If you keep being so polite, I'll be mad!" Madilyn joked, lightening the mood. Their faces broke into smiles.

"Even if an antidote can't be synthesized, I won't let anything happen to you," Lucian stated resolutely. Roxanne's deteriorating condition, however, offered little hope.

Roxanne met his gaze, assuring him softly yet firmly, "I won't let you submit to anyone. I will save myself today!"

Their conversation touched the laboratory staff. Lucian's concession surprised them, given his usual unyielding nature. Jack's pressure on him, and the obvious depth of his love for Roxanne, evoked pity. They were innocent victims of someone's jealousy.

Lucian calmly stated, "I don't care. I'll find a way to retaliate, even if I surrender. I only want you by my side."

Roxanne, moved, relented. Her imminent mortality rendered other concerns insignificant. As long as she lived, revenge could wait.

Looking at him apologetically, she mused, "He won't forgive you easily if you meet him again."

He hugged her comfortingly. "It doesn't matter what he wants. Saving you is paramount."

In his embrace, she relaxed. "That'll be our only option if it comes to that. But it hasn't yet. We still have hope."
