Chapter 1721: Let Me Write It

Roxanne's revelation stunned Madilyn. "It's not an antidote? Then what do we do now?" They had invested so much effort, yet the antidote remained elusive. Roxanne was already so weak; she couldn't possibly hold on until they found it. Madilyn felt helpless, longing to be by Roxanne's side. Lucian, equally shocked, felt his hatred for Jack intensify. That man truly had a death wish.

Roxanne clenched her hand, her nails digging into her flesh, attempting to suppress the pain. I have to calm down, she thought. We know the poison's components. I'm sure I can formulate something to suppress it. Just as she began to brainstorm, a searing headache intensified.

"There's no time," Peregrine's voice cut through the call, "the poison's effects will soon overwhelm any temporary measure." Anxiousness filled Peregrine as he solemnly observed Roxanne. Despite having met her only once, he admired her perseverance and skill. Losing someone of her caliber would be a devastating blow to the medical field. He was determined to find a cure.

Roxanne unconsciously gripped Lucian's wrist, her nails digging into his skin. Lucian winced, but his gaze remained fixed on her, a mixture of worry and conflict etched on his face. The same thought consumed them both; yet, he couldn't bear to see her suffer.

"I'm going to see Jack!" Lucian declared, rising with a grimace.

Roxanne, turning her head in pain, hissed, "No! Don't see him! Even if he provides an antidote, it will only hinder my ability to find the solution. Continued contact will give him too much control."

Lucian felt Roxanne's pain acutely, his own heart aching.

Forcing a smile, Roxanne turned to Madilyn. "I... I think I've figured it out. Tell Old Mr. Lomax to wait at the research institute. Archie will go over to assist him shortly." She then looked at Lucian. "Lucian, get me a pen and paper."

Lucian frowned. "Let me write it. I doubt you can even hold a pen."

Roxanne shook her head. "Those unfamiliar with traditional medicine easily misspell the names. Many remedies have similar-sounding names, even doctors can mishear them. Let me write it."

Time was critical, so Lucian didn't argue. He quickly fetched the materials and placed them before her. Roxanne fell silent, summoning every ounce of strength to hold the pen. Even with intense concentration, her writing was shaky and uneven. Lucian and the others on the call watched with growing apprehension.
