Chapter 1726: The Bond
Linda led the way, while Peregrine trailed behind, staring curiously at Archie. This little thing, no more than five or six years old, was already amazing. The apple certainly didn't fall far from the tree!
On their way to the warehouse, Archie asked glumly, "Aunt Madilyn, is my mommy very sick?"
Madilyn stopped, lowering her gaze to meet his worried eyes. Patting his head, she sidestepped the question. "As long as you can help us, your mommy will be fine. There's nothing to worry about."
He remained silent. I can tell from Aunt Madilyn's expression that Mommy is seriously ill this time. I've got to do what I can to help!
His question increased Madilyn's anxiety. She scooped him into her arms and quickened her pace. Linda, understanding immediately, also increased her speed.
They hurried to the warehouse. Referring to Peregrine's prescription, Archie precisely recited the locations of the medicinal herbs: "Second warehouse, third row, fifth compartment. First warehouse, topmost row, third compartment from the left. Fifth warehouse, last row, first compartment."
Linda and Madilyn gathered the herbs while Peregrine weighed them. Their seamless teamwork resulted in all the herbs being collected within an hour. Peregrine checked each one meticulously, then, stroking Archie's hair, sighed in relief. "My child, you're so smart!"
The boy looked up. "You're a very skilled doctor, aren't you?"
Peregrine's expression softened. "Your mother is also a very skilled doctor."
"But Mommy's not well now. Are you able to cure her?" Archie asked earnestly.
Those words resonated deeply with Peregrine. He vowed solemnly, "I'll try my best!"
Archie bowed politely. "Thank you."
Peregrine's affection for the boy deepened, further fueling his determination to cure Roxanne. After checking the herbs, he immediately led a team to begin researching the antidote. Archie sat in a corner, waiting restlessly.
Meanwhile, Lucian and Jonathan remained with Benny and Estella in the laboratory, their moods somber.
"Daddy, what's the matter with Mommy?" Estella asked Lucian, her expression pitiful.
Lucian's eyes darkened, but he maintained composure. "She's fine. Don't you trust her prescription will work?"
Estella considered this, nodding, then shaking her head. "I trust Mommy's capabilities, but I still have a bad feeling," she said, pointing to her heart.
Lucian's eyes widened. Jonathan averted his gaze. So, that's the bond between a mother and her children. Despite everything we've done, it's still difficult to hide from these kids that Roxanne is in critical condition. However, who would have the heart to tell them the cruel truth?
