Chapter 1759: Are You Serious?
Roxanne carefully set down her glasses and softly asked, "This is..."
Lucian explained in a deep voice, "This is the gift I prepared for Old Mr. Lomax, but he refused it. It seems he has something else to say." He then retrieved the card from the table.
Roxanne looked at Peregrine in confusion.
Peregrine nodded with satisfaction. "Indeed, I have something to ask of you. It's wonderful that you decided to visit."
Roxanne readily agreed. "What is it? Please tell me. You've helped me so much, and if there's anything I can do, I will."
"I'm relieved to hear that," Peregrine said contentedly, looking at Roxanne. "I request to work at your research institute. The arrangements shouldn't be difficult for you."
Roxanne was momentarily stunned. "Are you serious? After all these years in seclusion, I assumed you'd want to return home. I never expected this request!"
Peregrine continued calmly, "After these few days, I find you very interesting, and perhaps your research institute has work that interests me. I've been considering this all day, and your arrival feelsโฆfateful."
He had been fascinated by Roxanne since receiving her prescription the previous day. His seclusion had apparently left him unaware of the world's advancements, and the possibility of geniuses like Roxanne existing in unknown places filled him with anticipation. Her appearance had reignited his interest in the outside world.
Roxanne, regaining her composure, happily nodded. "It would be an honor to have you at our research institute." She hadn't imagined working alongside him after all these years of following his work. A moment of regret followed. "If I'd known, I would have proposed it myself. I wasn't thoughtful enough..."
Peregrine chuckled. "I only decided yesterday. Your willingness is enough. I look forward to working with you."
Roxanne smiled. "I look forward to learning from you!"
They quickly delved into discussing the research institute's direction, deeply engrossed in conversation. Lucian watched Roxanne's quiet excitement, unable to understand their conversation but happy for her.
As noon approached, Roxanne reluctantly said goodbye. "We must leave now. Let me know when you're ready."
The old man smiled. "Very well. Farewell for now."
