Chapter 1868: The Chance to Make a Move
โTens of billions wouldn't mean a thing to me, let alone millions! Do you understand, Elektra Lane?โ Christina spat, venom lacing her words. โIf I cared about money, I wouldn't have been a fool then. I would have relented. You're inferior. I disregarded everything for Lucian's love. You, however, waver for a pittance. You're weak, Elektra! Your so-called love is a sham. How could someone like you ever deserve Lucian?โ
Each word was a brutal blow, leaving Elektra trembling. She wanted to retort, but the words failed her. Christina was right; her successful career had dulled her obsession with Lucian.
Elektra remained silent for a long time. She was trapped, ensnared in Christina's web.
โYou still have a chance. Taking down Roxanne might not win you Lucian's love, but you'll control the cosmeceutical company. Understand?โ Christina pressed.
Elektra froze, her resolve wavering. Controlling the research team meant continued product development, even without Roxanne. But it would make Lucian her enemy. Could the Lane family withstand Lucian's wrath? Her emotions were a tempest. She calmed herself, but to what end? She had no real choice; she was certain Christina was recording their conversation. If Christina sent the recording to Lucian, she'd incur his wrath as well. Either way, the outcome seemed the same.
โOkay. The third-phase product launch will be my opportunity.โ She ended the call, eager to escape the conversation.
Soon, Elektra's companions left. She slumped in her seat, feeling hollow.
Near lunchtime, Jonathan left his office with medicinal herbs, intending to visit Lorraine. His phone rang. It was Coralie.
โJonathan, are you free? I went cycling and fell on my way back. I'm still on the mountain. Could you help?โ
Coralie's voice was soft, alluring.
โYou fell? Where are you? How bad is it? I'll come right away,โ Jonathan replied, worried.
โBellefort Hill Scenic Area. I'll send my location. It's just a scrape, a little bleeding, don't worry,โ Coralie said.
After the call, Jonathan received Coralie's location. He drove there using GPS, even considering if his car's medical kit would suffice.
