Listen to this chapter:

Roxanne hurried to Harvey's office. Pushing open the door, she saw two boys sitting on the couch, swinging their legs nonchalantly. Their faces lit up at her sight. Scrambling to their feet, they rushed toward her.

"Mommy, you're finally done! I thought you'd be in the lab forever!" one exclaimed.

"Mommy, you've worked hard! Are you tired? Sit down. I'll give you a massage," the other offered.

They led Roxanne to the couch. As she took in their concern, she felt it was all worth it.

"Look how obedient you are," she said. "You weren't like this when you hacked into my computer!"

Harvey huffed angrily from behind his desk.

"It was all your fault, Professor Lambert!" Archie declared. "You kept asking Mommy to work overtime. Look, she's getting malnourished!"

"That's right! Mommy's an ordinary human being. How could you ask her to work day and night?" Benny chimed in, kneading Roxanne's shoulder.

Harvey, his temper flaring, barked a laugh. "You're too overprotective! Everyone in the institute does the same!" He shook his head and turned to Roxanne. "How did your research go?"

Roxanne grinned. "It went smoothly. I'll send you the data later." She paused. "Have you restored the data on your computer?"

Harvey ran a hand through his hair. "It's been an hour, and I still can't restore anything."

Amused, Roxanne patted Benny's hand. "Benny, go restore Professor Lambert's computer. Don't be naughty. What if he loses important data?"

"That won't happen," Benny replied immediately. "I always create backups and multiple security levels. He won't lose a thing!"

He trotted over to Harvey and expertly restored the computer, his fingers flying across the keyboard. A few minutes later, the screen blinked back to normal.

Harvey stared in admiration. He had to admit his mentee's sons were geniuses. Archie, a medical prodigy, could identify thousands of herbs and possessed a sharp business acumen. Benny, a budding programmer and numbers whiz, also showed a talent for investment. Both were adorable, mature, and undeniably cheeky. This made it impossible for Harvey to scold them; he vented his frustrations on Roxanne instead.

Roxanne apologized. "I'm sorry, Professor Lambert. Please don't blame the kids. And please don't yell at me either. I can't always be their scapegoat."

Harvey chuckled. "Don't worry. I didn't call you here to yell. I have a task for you. I'm planning to set up a research institute back in Chanaea, focusing on traditional medicine. I'm too busy to leave now, so I've decided to send you back!"

Roxanne froze. She hadn't considered returning after six years away. She had no family there and had grown to love Yartran. Her first reaction was to refuse. "Professor Lambert, Iโ€”"

Harvey interrupted. "Roxanne, I know you don't want to go back, but please consider it. You've been my student for years; you know the depth of traditional medicine. There aren't enough herbs here for your research. In Chanaea, you'll have access to everything you need. Plus, many prestigious families there possess ancient medical skillsโ€”something you're interested in, right? You have a bright future there. You're different now. You can handle anything calmly."

Roxanne fell silent. He was right. Six years had passed. Perhaps the man she'd left behind was married. Why was she afraid? Taking a deep breath, she nodded. "All right. I'll go back to Chanaea."

Harvey beamed. "Wonderful! I'll have Linda accompany you, and I'll arrange a team to assist you."

"Thank you, Professor Lambert!" Roxanne replied.

Archie and Benny exchanged excited glances. Mommy was finally returning to Chanaea! They longed to see their father and, perhaps, teach him a lesson for abandoning them.

Two days later, Roxanne and the boys landed in Horington. After disembarking, Benny tugged at Roxanne's skirt. "Mommy, I need to pee."

Roxanne and Archie giggled at his urgent expression. As she led him to the restroom, Benny suddenly trembled. "Stop it, Mommy! I'm going to pee my pants!"

Roxanne chuckled and took him to the restroom. While Archie accompanied Benny, Roxanne waited outside with their luggage, texting her professor. Suddenly, a familiar voice cut through the air.

"Idiots! How could you fail to watch a little girl? What use are you?"

The voice, rich and melodious, held a hint of fury. Roxanne's hands froze. Six years had passed, but she recognized it instantly. Looking up, she saw a tall man in a black suit. It was Lucian Farwell.

Her heart clenched. She hadn't expected to see him. But she quickly composed herself, her gaze turning frosty. Then, the boys emerged from the restroom.

Panic surged. She needed to leave before Archie and Benny saw him; their resemblance was striking.

Flustered, she urged, "You're done? Come, let's go. We don't want to keep your godmother waiting." She grabbed her luggage and hurried away.

Lucian, mid-conversation, heard a familiar voice. He glimpsed a familiar figureโ€”Roxanne Jarvis. She was back. He ran after her, but she had vanished into the crowd. His gaze darkened. She'd left so decisively, abandoning her child. There was no way she could be back.
