Chapter 2003: Are You Lying Again?

Stunned by the response, Grant attempted to move his chapped lips, managing only a wry smile. "Since you already know, I might as well come clean. It's true I succumbed to greed and took Mr. Crawford's bribe. His objective was to place me by your side to gather information," Grant confessed candidly.

"With that aim, I divorced Winnie. Initially, the divorce wasn't meant to be genuine. Once I received enough money from Mr. Crawford, she would return. Unfortunately, I was a foolโ€ฆ" Grant mumbled.

Lucian's brows furrowed; he had no interest in acting as Grant's confessor. After all, Grant had abandoned Roxanne's mother, taken up with Winnie, and brought two children into the family, inflicting irreparable trauma on Roxanne.

"Mr. Jarvis, there's no need to dwell on the past. Roxanne knows your motives; don't disturb our lives again. As for the children, I'll tell them their grandfather has gone overseas for business."

Lucian turned to leave, but Grant unexpectedly stopped him, trembling and pleading. "Lucian, I know I've sinned terribly and deserve nothing, but believe me, I've cut ties with Mr. Crawford. I can't repay him, so I'm in hiding. I've lost everything and want nothing, but Lucian, you must tell Roxanneโ€”"

Losing patience, Lucian shoved Grant aside. "I'm not interested. Leave before I call my bodyguards!"

He's sorry? Repentant? A man like this will never truly know remorse.

Lucian quickened his pace, wanting no more of Grant's voice. Behind him, Grant stared blankly at his retreating figure. "I'm sorry. It's all my fault. This must be karma. Even hell is too light a punishmentโ€ฆ"

Within seconds, he dropped to his knees, sorrow etched on his face. "Lucian, beg Roxanne to let me apologize. I have a terminal illness; only two or three days left, I'm afraidโ€ฆ"

As Grant cried out, he swooned and collapsed.

The dull thud stopped Lucian in his tracks. Turning, he saw Grant on the ground, eyes closed, lips pale. Was this another trick? Terminal illness? Such a clichรฉ excuse.

Yet, Grant's skin did look yellower than usualโ€”a symptom of illness. Leaving him unattended wasn't wise. He summoned his bodyguards. "Keep an eye on him!"

The bodyguards carried Grant to a nearby security post.
