Chapter 2026: Heirloom
At a mansion in the suburbs of Herington, Winnie received a call from Grant. She was shocked to learn he had cancer and was facing imminent death.
Upon hearing the news, Winnie paused before responding coldly, "You reap what you sow, Grant. You deserve it!"
After a brief silence, Grant calmly asked, "Winnie, I only called to ask for one thing. Do you remember the heirloom that belonged to Roxanne's mother? Please return it to me so I can give it to Roxanne."
Winnie's eyes blazed with anger. "What nonsense are you talking about? I have never taken it!"
Her son, Yosef, his eyes shadowed with dark circles, yawned and asked, "Mom, who's on the phone?"
"Your dad," she snapped.
Grant's voice softened. "Winnie, I'm dying. I hope you still have a little conscience. Return the heirloom, and we're even."
"Listen, Grant. I didn't take it! I wanted to find it back then. We searched the whole house, but we couldn't find it. Believe it or not! Don't call me again!"
Winnie hung up before Grant could respond.
Yosef, unfazed by her fury, prodded, "Mom, hurry up and cook!"
Annoyed by his listlessness, Winnie chided, "Yosef, you need a job! You come home late and leave early every day. Your gambling addiction is out of control. Don't you care about your family?"
Frowning, Yosef glared at his mother. "Why should I care? We're getting divorced because I'm not good enough for her. I deserve to be ill-treated. Besides, I can't find a job anywhere because Grant's been blacklisted. What have I done to deserve this?"
Yosef went to the kitchen, leaving Winnie in the living room, still in shock. Fortunately, her daughter's marriage to a wealthy businessman allowed them to live in this mansion. In contrast, her son and husband were useless.
Meanwhile, at the Jarvis residence, Grant calmly analyzed the situation. Roxanne and Lucian waited quietly beside him. He'd informed them that Roxanne's mother had left an heirloom, which he suspected Winnie had stolen.
"Dad, maybe Winnie sold it long ago," Lucian suggested.
Roxanne, though composed, was curious about her mother's heirloom.
Grant shook his head. "Not likely. If Winnie took it, she wouldn't have denied it."
"So, what exactly is it? Is it valuable? Winnie is even more despicable than I thought!" Roxanne exclaimed.
Lucian reassured her, "Don't worry. I'm sure it's still in this old house. Since Winnie didn't steal it, we just need to search properly."
Grant nodded. "Roxanne, we will search thoroughly and hand it over to you once it's found."
