Chapter 251: Leaving the Country After Divorce
It was almost the weekend. Roxanne took her children, Archie and Benny, to kindergarten early Saturday morning. It was their first group activity.
Holding Roxanne's hands, the twins were wide-eyed, eagerly exploring their surroundings. Many children greeted them, and Archie and Benny responded enthusiastically. Roxanne realized how popular they were.
"Ms. Jarvis!"
A child's voice called from behind. Roxanne hadn't seen Estella in a while and missed her. She smiled and turned, intending to hug the little girl. Instead, she met Lucian's gaze.
Her smile faded. She briefly patted Estella's head.
"Good morning, Essie," she said, then looked indifferently at Lucian. "Good morning, Mr. Farwell."
Lucian, dressed casually in a dark windbreaker, looked taller and broader than usual. His loose bangs gave him a youthful appearance. His eyes darkened as he met Roxanne's gaze, then softened into an impassive smile.
"I didn't expect to see you here, Ms. Jarvis."
Roxanne was taken aback. She understood his implicationโthat she'd been avoiding him. A wave of sarcasm washed over her. Shouldn't he know why? Who does he think he is to criticize me?
Collecting herself, she looked down. "This is Archie and Benny's first group activity. I should be here."
Lucian glanced at Estella. "You're right, Ms. Jarvis. This is also Essie's first group activity since her recovery, so I wanted to be here for her, despite my busy schedule."
Roxanne's heart softened at the mention of Estella's illness. She looked at the little girl with tenderness. Estella gazed at Roxanne with large, adoring eyes, then beamed. Roxanne's heart ached, and she found it hard to look away.
As more parents arrived, Roxanne finally stepped back. "I won't keep you, Mr. Farwell. You're very busy." She left with Archie and Benny.
Lucian, though surrounded by parents, wasn't paying attention. His thoughtful gaze followed Roxanne.
That day, Roxanne wore a yellow dress with white flower petals, her long hair secured with a hairclip. She looked gentle and motherly. Archie and Benny, dressed identically in white athletic outfits, looked like little princes. The three were striking.
When Estella saw Roxanne leaving, she tugged free from Lucian's grasp. He let her go.
Roxanne felt a tug on her dress. Thinking it was a child, she turned to ask them to let go. Instead, she saw Estella's sad face.
"Ms. Jarvis, don't you like me anymore?" Estella asked, pouting and clutching Roxanne's dress.
