Chapter 348: The Reason You Leave
Estella was heartbroken. Knowing Roxanne was leaving, she sobbed. Roxanne smiled wryly, caressing Estellaโs head. "This might be the last time I see you, Essie. Don't cry. Please smile."
Estella cried, shaking her head. "Don't leave, Ms. Jarvis."
Roxanne let Estella cry, comforting her as she calmed down. "Get well soon, Essie. When you're grown up, you can visit me abroad."
Deep down, Estella knew she couldn't convince Roxanne to stay, but Roxanne's words sparked hope. Innocently, she asked, "Really?"
Roxanne smiled and nodded.
Estella remained unconvinced. "But when I'm grown up, will you still remember me, Ms. Jarvis?"
Roxanne shook her head firmly. "Why wouldn't I? You're so cute, Essie. Why would I forget you?"
Archie and Benny chimed in, "We'll remember you too, Essie. Get well soon!"
Reassured, Estella quieted, wiping her tears. "I'll stop crying."
She wanted to leave a good impression on Ms. Jarvis, not just be remembered as a crying child. Estella tried her best to smile.
Roxanne sighed with relief. Though heartbroken, she forced a smile. "Let's play Lego, okay? Then I'll send you home."
The children nodded. Knowing this was goodbye, Archie and Benny were attentive, building Lego slowly and focusing on Estella, assisting her whenever needed.
Estella, however, was distracted, constantly checking the time.
At four o'clock, Roxanne steeled herself. "Time to go home, Essie."
The children quickly put away their Legos.
Estella smiled, but her sadness was evident in her stiff smile.
Roxanne sighed inwardly, blaming herself. She's so little. I should be kinder, but she's still Lucian's child.
Archie and Benny hugged Estella. "We'll see each other at kindergarten! Wait for us!" Estella's eyes lit up; she nodded eagerly.
Roxanne took Estella's hand and walked her to the car.
On the way to the Farwell residence, Roxanne was silent, overwhelmed with mixed emotions. Estella was quiet too.
Outside the Farwell residence, Estella asked cautiously, "Ms. Jarvis, are you leaving because of Daddy?"
Roxanne froze, then smiled calmly. "No. I came back for work and have to leave when I'm finished."
