Before Roxanne could react, Lucian steadied her by the waist. When she looked up, she saw his dark eyes. Their gazes met, and Roxanne stiffened, quickly averting her gaze before using the bed to support herself as she stood.
He had instinctively caught her when she fell. However, seeing her avoid him, his expression darkened, and he quickly withdrew his hand.
"How dare you claim to have researched complicated diseases! Is this the result of your research? I think those credentials are fake!" Frieda, oblivious to the exchange between Roxanne and Lucian, remained furious. She glared at Jonathan. "She's a liar! We need to dismiss her immediately!"
Roxanne, snapping back to attention, retorted, "No wonder Old Mr. Queen's condition worsened. Someone's been interfering with his treatment. Since you insist I'm wrong, I'm leaving."
She began packing her needles. No one expected her to back down so easily after her earlier determination.
Jonathan, stunned, recovered after a few seconds. "I'm so sorry, Dr. Jarvis. We're a family of doctors; we know a little about acupuncture. My sister's angry because she thinks it's dangerous to use that acupuncture point and is worried about Grandpa. Please forgive her."
Roxanne ignored him, continuing to pack. "I won't stay here and be scolded by someone who doesn't understand what I'm doing. I came to help Old Mr. Queen, but since Ms. Queen doesn't believe me, forget it!"
She grabbed her medical kit and headed for the door. Jonathan, panicked, carefully settled Alfred before chasing after her. "Let's talk, Dr. Jarvis. My sister was out of line; I'll make her apologize. Please continue your grandfather's treatment."
"There's no need. I won't accept Ms. Queen's apology," Roxanne replied coldly.
Lucian, standing by the bed, watched her go, his brow furrowed in a heavy expression. He saw her anger. Estella, too, noticed Roxanne's anger and was filled with panic.
I didn't even get to say hello, and now she's leaving! Angered, Estella approached Frieda, wrote a word in her notebook ("Apologize!"), and showed it to her.
Many turned to see the word. Estella stared at Frieda with wide eyes. Frieda, embarrassed, looked away, pretending not to see. She turned to her brother. "If this doesn't work out, we can find another doctor. I can't trust her."
Seeing Frieda's stubbornness, Roxanne's expression grew colder. "Then I hope you find a doctor you like before Old Mr. Queen dies, Ms. Queen."
She turned to leave, but someone grabbed her wrist. Furrowing her brow, she turned to see Lucian's expressionless face. Shock filled her heart. What is he doing?
