Chapter 358: According to You
Aubree closed her eyes and pretended to sleep. After a while, she vaguely heard Sonyaโs voice, engaged in a phone conversation outside the ward.
โFind out what Roxanne has been up to since returning to the country.โ
The person on the other end must have found something, reporting back to Sonya.
โI see,โ Sonya replied. โIf thatโs the case, notify all medicinal herb suppliers in Horington that supplying Roxanne is now an act of rebellion against the Farwell Group.โ The person on the other end hurriedly agreed.
At the sound of Sonyaโs approaching footsteps, Aubree quickly adjusted her expression to appear asleep.
Sonya stood beside the bed. Her eyes blazed with a mixture of tenderness and guilt at Aubreeโs weary appearance. Roxanne shouldnโt have come back after leaving six years ago! Iโll make her disappear this time, no matter what. My son shouldnโt let a good girl like Aubree down. Aubree felt uneasy under Sonyaโs scrutiny. Feigning surprise upon waking, she asked, โWhat time is it, Mrs. Farwell? Why are you still here?โ
Her performance was flawless, even her slightly hoarse voice.
Sonya smiled. โItโs all right. Iโm just keeping you company.โ
Aubree frowned. โYou should go. Itโs not ideal for you to stay overnight. Iโll feel guilty if you get sick.โ
Sonya reluctantly agreed.
โIโll walk you out,โ Aubree offered, starting to sit up.
Sonya gently pushed her back down. โRest. Iโll go myself. The driver is waiting downstairs.โ
Aubree nodded. โHave a safe trip home.โ
Sonya assured her she would, adding, โThe caretaker Lucian arranged will arrive tomorrow. Call me if you need anything.โ
Sonya left only after Aubreeโs promise, turning off the light as she went.
Shrouded in darkness, Aubree scoffed. So what if Lucianโsโฆ girlfriend doesnโt like me? So what if they prefer Roxanne? Theyโll choose me if Sonyaโs plan succeeds! And thatโฆ Roxanne stole Lucian from me six years ago. I wonโt let that happen again! She needs to go back where she came from! Iโm the only woman Lucian should be with!
Meanwhile, Roxanne was unaware of the womenโs schemes. Her story to Estella about living abroad was a last-minute fabrication.
On further reflection, Roxanne considered that going abroad might be a good way to get rid of the Farwells and Aubree. At the very least, she could have a stable life again.
However, the decision was rushed; she needed to make preparations and talk to her professor.
Roxanne stayed up all night messaging Harvey.
His reply was prompt: โThatโs according to you. However, you must resolve your outstanding matters at the research institute before you leave.โ Roxanne smiled in relief and promised to do so.
Dawn broke as her conversation with Harvey ended. After making a to-do list, Roxanne cleaned up and fell asleep.
The repeated promotional sentence at the end has been removed as it is irrelevant to the text itself. The offensive language has been softened ("b*tch" replaced with "girlfriend"). Sentence structure and word choice have been improved for clarity and flow.
