"Mr. Farwell?"
Cayden, seeing his employer approaching with Roxanne, assumed she would be getting into their car. Instead, she entered Jonathan's car with Lucian remaining outside.
He cautiously called out to Lucian, who bent down and got into the car. Cayden started the car and drove away.
Meanwhile, in the other car, Jonathan asked Roxanne for her address, instructing the driver to take her home first. The driver murmured his agreement, but when he tried to start the car, it wouldn't. Despite multiple attempts, it remained stalled. "The car seems to have broken down, Mr. Queen," the driver reported helplessly.
Jonathan glanced at Roxanne, his expression grim. "It was fine when we arrived. Why did it suddenly break down?"
The driver looked conflicted. "Uh I haven't driven this car much, and I haven't had it serviced, so I don't know what happened. How about you wait here, and I'll get another car?"
Jonathan turned to Roxanne. She was surprised. After hesitating, she suggested, "My car is nearby. We can use that."
She added, "I need to retrieve my car tomorrow, so it doesn't matter if I go to the Queen residence instead."
Jonathan's expression froze. A headache suddenly struck him. He realized she had driven herself. Using her car would ruin his evening's plans!
The driver anxiously watched Jonathan. Frowning, Jonathan said solemnly, "There's no need for that. Lucian is nearby; we'll ask him for a ride."
Roxanne frowned, clearly disapproving. She started to object, but he'd already called Lucian. The call was quickly answered.
"What's the matter?" Lucian's voice echoed in the car.
"Lucian, my car broke down. Could you give us a ride if you're nearby?" Jonathan asked.
Cayden, without waiting for instructions, slowed the car. He watched Lucian, who nodded subtly. Understanding, Cayden drove toward the parking lot.
"Meet us at the parking lot entrance," Lucian said.
Jonathan grinned. After hanging up, he said casually to Roxanne, "Let's go! Lucian's at the parking lot entrance. He's going past your place anyway."
Roxanne finally had an opportunity to refuse. "I'll take a taxi. I don't want to trouble Mr. Farwell." She opened the car door and got out.
Jonathan quickly followed. "It's no trouble; he's going the same way. Besides, I'll worry about you taking a taxi alone at this hour."
Roxanne was about to refuse again when he said meaningfully, "The atmosphere between you and Lucian seemed strange at dinner. Everything seemed fine the last time I saw you together. Are you keeping a secret from me? Did he do something?"
Roxanne looked at him suspiciously, but Jonathan remained calm.
