Lucian knitted his brows in confusion. Essie hadn't seen Roxanne recently, nor had she dreamt of her before. Why this dream now, and why was she crying so intensely?
"Archie and Benny told me Ms. Jarvis will take them overseas once she finishes her work at the research institute," Estella said, crestfallen, recalling her conversation with the boys at kindergarten yesterday. She'd thought Roxanne was lying; Archie and Benny had said they weren't leaving. However, the children had also mentioned they wouldn't stay in the country much longer. Furthermore, Estella hadn't seen Roxanne since she'd mentioned going abroad.
This thought prompted another wave of tears.
Hearing his daughter's words, Lucian's face darkened. According to Archie and Benny, Roxanne would already be abroad if not for this incident.
Estella tugged at his shirt. "Daddy, I don't want Ms. Jarvis to go."
Lucian, regaining his composure, held his daughter's tiny hands. "I know, sweetheart. I'll talk to Ms. Jarvis." Estella nodded, her eyes glazing over as she yawned.
Lucian placed Estella in bed and tucked her in. "Go to sleep. I'll stay here."
Her head lolled, and she soon drifted off.
Complicated emotions churned within Lucian as he observed his daughter's peaceful sleep, pondering her words.
After Estella slept soundly, Lucian tiptoed from the room and returned to his bedroom. He finished washing up and was ready for bed well past midnight.
Early the next morning, Lucian awoke with a severe headache. Cayden was already waiting at his office entrance.
Cayden hurried forward. "Mr. Farwell."
Lucian nodded, replying in a hoarse voice, "What's the matter?"
Cayden produced a document, pointing to a page. "Minor problems with our Summerbank project. They're requesting a representative. Mr. Langdon's unavailable; what do you think?"
Lucian glanced at the document. The issue wasn't serious; a project manager would suffice. However, noticing the meeting location, he said, "I'll get back to you."
Cayden nodded.
Entering his office, Lucian contacted Jonathan. Jonathan had just confirmed a meeting time with medicinal herb suppliers in Summerbank and was about to call Roxanne when Lucian called.
"That meeting with the Summerbank suppliersโhave you finalized the details? If you haven'tโ" Lucian began, solemnly.
Jonathan cheerfully interrupted, "You're more impatient than Dr. Jarvis! Even she hasn't pushed me."
Lucian grunted.
"I just finalized the time and was about to call Dr. Jarvis," Jonathan said.
"When?" Lucian asked.
Jonathan checked his calendar. "Two days from now. Why?"
Lucian nodded. "Got it." He hung up without explanation, then summoned Cayden. "Book me a flight to Summerbank tomorrow. I'm going personally."
Cayden looked confused. He'd only consulted Lucian because the decision rested with him; he knew Lucian's personal trip wasn't necessary given the issue's severity. Nevertheless, he didn't question the order, readily agreeing to make the arrangements.
