Chapter 415: How Dare You?

As Joseph saw Lucian approaching, he glanced at his friends nearby, steeled himself, and positioned himself before Lucian. "Do you know this woman?"

Lucian stopped, his gaze sweeping emotionlessly over Joseph before settling on Roxanne's downcast face. Her lips were pursed; she clearly didn't want his help.

Lucian felt mocked by her reaction. Even now, she was avoiding him. He would grant her wish. With that thought, he looked away. "I don't know her."

Joseph inwardly sighed in relief.

The man on the floor scrambled up, pointing at Lucian. "Why did you kick me?" he exclaimed angrily.

Lucian merely gave him a cold look, causing the man to feel a chill and instantly fall silent. After a moment, Lucian said coldly, "You were in my way."

The man, indignant, opened his mouth, but knowing he was no match for Lucian, retreated into the crowd. Lucian turned to Joseph. "Please continue," he commanded.

Roxanne and Joseph's expressions changed. Roxanne was surprised, clenching her fists to suppress the urge to look at Lucian. She refused to believe his denial. Joseph, however, looked at Lucian with doubt, frowning.

Had Lucian not appeared, Joseph would have continued. But now, facing the domineering man's intense gaze, he hesitated. It seemed Lucian wouldn't leave until he continued.

I bet he was lying about not knowing her!

Nevertheless, yielding to Lucian's pressure, Joseph turned back to Roxanne and approached her slowly. Roxanne, having planned her response to Joseph, was unnerved by Lucian's gaze. As Joseph neared, her pupils constricted, and she instinctively stepped back, slapping him.

The sharp sound echoed. The nearby young men were stunned. Joseph's eyes widened; overwhelmed by Lucian's aura, he was slow to react.

How dare she hit me?

He snapped back to reality, glancing at Lucian, whose expression remained unchanged. Joseph's own expression darkened. "How dare you hit me?" he roared, stepping toward Roxanne and raising his hand.

Roxanne squeezed her eyes shut, but his hand never connected. There was no sound. Slowly opening her eyes, she saw Lucian's arm intercepting Joseph's, his hand gripping Joseph's wrist.

Joseph, still facing Roxanne, gritted his teeth, his face ashen. Though Roxanne had slapped Joseph, Lucian seemed shaken, finally realizing his actions and seeing Joseph about to strike Roxanne. His suppressed rage and guilt erupted, his aura intensifying.

When Lucian grabbed Joseph's wrist, Joseph was about to retort, but meeting Lucian's gaze, he fell silent. Despite the intense pressure on his wrist, he could only break into a cold sweat, unable to speak.
