Chloe, holding Cassandra's hand, noticed Archie and Benny eating something. "Archie, Benny," she asked curiously, "what are you eating?" "Candy," they replied, opening their mouths to show her. Then, touching their pockets apologetically, they added, "We've finished ours; otherwise, we could have shared some with you."
Disappointment clouded Chloe's face. Roxanne's heart softened at the sight. Remembering the candies in Estella's pocket, she called out, "Essie, can you give two candies to Chloe?"
Estella turned, nodding and attempting to retrieve candies from her deep witch costume pocket. Carried by Lucian, however, she struggled. After much effort, she looked to Lucian for help. He, seemingly oblivious, continued walking.
Chloe's face fell further as she waited in vain. Roxanne found herself in a predicament. Calling to Lucian would undoubtedly get Chloe the candy, but it might appear too intimate with Ms. Clark present. After considering this, she addressed the man ahead, "Mr. Farwell, could you help Essie with the candies?"
Lucian stopped. A nervous tension settled over those behind him. Moments later, he held several colorful candies. Approaching Chloe, he asked her to open her hand. His imposing presence intimidated her; she hesitantly reached out, her eyes longing for the sweets. Cassandra, equally uncomfortable, recoiled from taking the candies directly. The atmosphere grew awkward.
Roxanne, sensing this, hesitated briefly before stepping forward, taking the candies from Lucian and squatting beside Chloe. "Here are some candies for you, Little Red Riding Hood," she said gently.
Chloe's eyes brightened. "Thank you, Ms. Jarvis!"
Roxanne smiled, then added, "Don't forget to thank Mr. Farwell too. He gave you the candies."
Chloe, shy once more, mumbled, "Thank you, Mr. Farwell." Lucian nodded slightly, exchanging a meaningful glance with Roxanne before walking away.
Once Lucian was at a distance, Cassandra cautiously asked, "Ms. Jarvis, are you close to Mr. Farwell?"
Roxanne, slightly startled, composed herself. "Essie gets along well with my boys, so I interact with Mr. Farwell more often. That's probably why we seem close."
Cassandra smiled understandingly. "Mr. Farwell and Estella have never participated in events like these, let alone in costumes. Thanks to you, Archie, and Benny, we had this wonderful sight."
Indeed, since Archie and Benny's arrival, Estella had become more outgoing and playful. Roxanne's heart warmed at the thought, silently agreeing with Cassandra.
