Listen to this chapter:

Lucian stood behind Roxanne, staring at her silhouette for a long time. What was she thinking about? She hadn't even noticed him. She hadn't moved an inch.

After a while, Lucian walked toward her, a frown creasing his face. Only when his shadow fell upon her did Roxanne realize she wasn't alone. Snapping out of her daze, she looked up.

Their gazes met, and Roxanne immediately knitted her brows, stepping back. "What are you thinking about, Ms. Jarvis? Why did you leave Archie and Benny behind and come out here alone?" Lucian asked, his tone concerned, as if nothing unusual had occurred.

Roxanne retorted, "Didn't you leave Essie behind, Mr. Farwell?"

Lucian's expression faltered momentarily, then he smiled. "Essie was worried about you. I'm merely checking on you on her behalf."

Frustration washed over Roxanne as she recalled her earlier distress. She felt manipulated.

After a pause, she addressed the elephant in the room. "Thank you for your concern, Mr. Farwell. I was wondering... why didn't you follow the rehearsed final scene?"

Roxanne noticed Lucian's eyebrows arch in surprise.

"You felt that?" she asked.

Roxanne scrunched her face, confirming the kiss wasn't imagined. Lucian had truly kissed her in front of an audience. Did they see it? Lucian had a fiancรฉe, known to almost every parent in the kindergarten. Yet, he had kissed her.

Perplexed and dumbfounded, Roxanne had no idea what Lucian was thinking, or what the audience thought. Panic surged as she imagined their reactions. For a moment, she lost control. "Did you think I was actually asleep, Mr. Farwell? Why didn't you follow the rehearsal with all those people watching?"

Lucian observed her panicked expression, his gaze darkening. "Looks like it bothers you, Ms. Jarvis."

Roxanne stared incredulously. "It does! Greatly! So please, Mr. Farwell, I want a reasonable explanation!"

Lucian nodded. Calmly, he asked, "If I tell you it was an accident, will you believe me?"

Roxanne's suspicion was evident.

"I truly intended to follow the rehearsal. Unfortunately, the lights cast a shadow on your face, obscuring my view and causing me to misjudge the distance, accidentally kissing you." Lucian met her gaze. "I was as shocked as you are. But since you didn't react, I continued. I didn't expect you to mind so much."

Roxanne found his explanation hilarious and absurd. "Mr. Farwell, how should I have reacted to show I minded?" There were so many eyes on them. Did he expect her to ignore the script and forcefully push him away?

Lucian considered this silently. Finally, he said, "Honestly, even I don't know how you should have reacted. However, it's in the past. No need to discuss it further."
