Listen to this chapter:

On their way home, Estella's mixed feelings were evident. She was happy Roxanne would join their hot spring vacation, yet Roxanne's demeanor suggested she would maintain her usual distance. This thought saddened Estella. Lucian, too, noted Roxanne's attitude, his expression hardening.

Estella felt utterly dejected upon their return to the manor. During dinner, she repeatedly glanced at Lucian, hoping he would speak. Roxanne's intention to avoid Lucian, and a hint of resentment in Estella's eyes, were palpable. When he finally noticed her gaze, Lucian raised an eyebrow and served her more food. The resentment in Estella's eyes shifted to confusion.

"Essie, why do you want Ms. Jarvis to join our hot spring vacation?" Lucian asked in a low voice.

Estella pursed her lips. "I want to be with Ms. Jarvis!"

Lucian nodded, considering Estella's recent behavior and smiling. "Then do you want to be closer to Ms. Jarvis?"

"Yes!" Estella replied emphatically.

"Then you'll sleep with Ms. Jarvis during the vacation. Are you okay with that?" Lucian asked, looking at Estella.

Estella nodded eagerly. Roxanne smelled wonderful, and told Estella bedtime stories; she was Estella's favorite sleeping companion. However, Estella's suspicion lingered. "But can I? Ms. Jarvis is..."

She hesitated. "Ms. Jarvis only agreed because she pitied me. She clearly wants to avoid Daddy and only rehearsed because she had no choice. She'll probably still keep her distance this time..."

Understanding Estella's concerns, Lucian smiled reassuringly. "Ms. Jarvis likes you very much. As long as you ask, she won't refuse."

Estella tilted her head, still confused. "When I invited Ms. Jarvis, she only agreed when I was about to cry."

Lucian's eyes darkened. "Ms. Jarvis simply dislikes being around me. If it's just you, she'll definitely say yes."

Estella nodded obediently, agreeing to speak with Roxanne. Yet, her concerns remained. "Daddy, will Ms. Jarvis ignore us after the vacation?" The memory of Roxanne's previous avoidance still saddened her.

Lucian frowned. "That depends on you."

Estella pouted. She'd been trying her best, yet Roxanne still avoided them after the play. It clearly depended on Lucian! It wasn't her that Roxanne disliked.

Estella, disagreeing with Lucian, stared at him resentfully. Her feelings were plainly visible.

Seeing Estella's expression, Lucian chuckled wryly. "Okay, I'll do my best too, alright?"

Only then did Estella nod, satisfied.
