"Daddy hasn't eaten either," Estella mumbled, her mouth full, pointing at Lucian on the couch.
Roxanne stiffened, a mix of emotions stirring within her. She considered this, then turned to Lucian. "Mr. Farwell, please join us for breakfast if you haven't already. The hotel is quite far away, I believe."
"Why, thank you, Ms. Jarvis," Lucian replied, rising leisurely.
Lysa quickly set a place for him opposite Roxanne.
After a simple breakfast, they walked to the car and began their journey. Roxanne was about to enter her car when Lucian said, "Let's go in mine."
Roxanne stopped, turning to him. "It's alright. I'll drive the children."
Archie and Benny immediately ran to her side. Estella hesitated, then hugged Lucian's thigh. She wanted to be with Roxanne, but even more, she wanted Lucian to be with Roxanne. She knew if she went with Roxanne, Roxanne wouldn't take Lucian's car.
Noticing Estella's thoughtful expression, Lucian discreetly raised an eyebrow, patted her head, and said to Roxanne, "I think Essie wants to be with Archie and Benny as well."
Roxanne looked at Estella. Before she could invite her to join them, Lucian added, "Besides, it's a popular resort, and it's a weekend. Parking might be difficult."
Estella gave Roxanne a pleading look. Roxanne's heart melted, and she agreed. They'd already decided to travel together; such details were inconsequential.
Roxanne led the children to Lucian's car, wondering if she should sit in the back with them. She wasn't sure if the passenger seat was reserved for Aubree.
Estella, already in the car, noticed Roxanne's hesitation and glanced at Lucian. Then, she said to Archie and Benny, "It's awfully cramped in here."
The boys quickly scooted to the sides of the car. Roxanne paused, realizing it would be uncomfortable to squeeze in with the children.
An awkward silence fell. Roxanne stood outside the car, looking at the passenger seat and Lucian's impassive expression.
"Ms. Jarvis, come on in," Estella urged innocently.
Roxanne forced a smile, nodded, and moved to the passenger seat, opening the door. "May I sit here?"
Lucian looked over, his brow furrowed slightly. His voice was cold, tinged with displeasure. "Where else would you sit? It's getting late. If we don't leave now, there may not be any parking left."
He knew Roxanne was avoiding him, but he hadn't expected such resistance. There was only one seat left, and she didn't even want to sit beside him. A surge of anger flared within him.
Roxanne, however, mistook his displeasure for concern about wasting time, and hurriedly got in, fastening her seatbelt. He started the car and drove towards the resort.
