Estella remained in Roxanne's arms for a while. Awakening, she pulled herself free and looked up, frowning at Roxanne's pale complexion. "Ms. Jarvis, are you okay? You don't look so good."

Roxanne touched her face, surprised. She hadn't looked in a mirror since waking. She had no idea how unwell she appeared. "Oh, I drank a lot last night, and slept late. I certainly don't look refreshed."

Before Roxanne could elaborate, Estella wrinkled her nose. "Why do I smell alcohol?"

Roxanne smiled. "I had some wine last night; I couldn't sleep. That's probably why I look tired. I have a slight headache, too."

Estella gently touched Roxanne's forehead. Roxanne's smile widened at the child's concern.

After a moment, Estella withdrew her hand and glanced at the water and medication on the nightstand. Though unsure of their purpose, she offered them to Roxanne. An inexplicable feeling welled up in Roxanne's heart at the sight of the water, reminding her of a conversation with Lucian the previous night.

Estella, seeing Roxanne's hesitation, offered the water again. Roxanne pushed it away. "I don't feel like it."

Confused, Estella tilted her head. "It's cold. I'd like some warm water. Besides," Roxanne added, forcing a smile, "I don't need that medication anymore."

Estella nodded quietly, replacing the pills, and carefully retrieved the glass. She left the room to fetch warm water.

Upon her return, Roxanne took a couple of sips, then led Estella to the bathroom to wash up. Archie and Benny were waiting in the room when they returned.

"Mommy, did you drink last night?" The boys asked, their suspicion confirmed by the smell of alcohol and the medication on the nightstand. Roxanne nodded. There was no point in hiding it. "I couldn't sleep, so I went downstairs for some."
