Chapter 583
Roxanne, still recovering from her injury, had been resting at home since returning from the hotel. She mostly communicated with Colby about the research institute by phone. This morning, however, Jack called.
Roxanne's eyes lit up at the caller ID; she suspected the reason for his call. Their conversations since her medical consultation had been limited to the research institute. Before that, their partnership, still in the planning stages with the Damaris family, had officially begun. This call, she assumed, concerned the partnership's specifics.
The thought spurred her to ignore her foot wound and rush to her study.
โI hope Iโm not bothering you, Ms. Jarvis,โ Jackโs voice, tinged with happiness, greeted her.
Roxanne smiled. โOf course not. Given the early hour, is there something important you wish to discuss, Mr. Damaris?โ
โWhat do you think, Ms. Jarvis?โ Jack teased, prolonging the suspense.
โIs there progress on the partnership?โ Roxanne asked directly.
โMaybe I just wanted to chat, Ms. Jarvis,โ Jack joked.
Roxanne laughed. โThen letโs do just that.โ
Their previous meetings had been brief and strictly professional. Roxanne didnโt consider herself charming, and she knew Jack was teasing.
He chuckled, then turned serious. โYouโre right, Ms. Jarvis. The research instituteโs planning phase is complete. Weโre ready to begin research and development preparations.โ
Roxanneโs eyes gleamed with anticipation. โDoes that mean we can start working together soon?โ
โYes,โ Jack confirmed. โBut first, we need to discuss details. When are you available for a meeting, Ms. Jarvis?โ
Roxanne prioritized the institute. โIโm free anytime. Itโs up to you, Mr. Damaris,โ she replied, adding, โThe sooner the better, if possible.โ
Jack chuckled. โThatโs precisely what I was thinking. Letโs meet this afternoon. Iโll send you the location shortly.โ
Roxanne readily agreed. They continued discussing the partnership until nearly noon.
As Roxanne left the study, she bumped into Lysa, who had been searching for her.
โMs. Jarvis, youโre still injured! How did you get here alone? Why didnโt you call me?โ Lysa scolded gently, guiding Roxanne to a chair.
Roxanne, treating Lysa like an elder, smiled. โMy woundโs much better now. Donโt worry. And I have an afternoon appointment.โ
A touch of guilt colored her tone.
Lysa looked concerned. โWhat appointment? You havenโt told them about your injury? Why canโt you do it at home?โ
Roxanne reassured her. โItโs crucial business. I have to attend. Donโt worry; Iโll be careful.โ
Lysa remained worried. โIโll come with you.โ
Roxanne readily agreed.
